Hi Dr. My 8 week old makes a clicking sound when bottle feeding, seems to lose suction and I think I can hear lots of air bubbles going down?
Sucking problem: You need to check the size of the hole in the nipple & see how fast it is dripping down the formula. Try a nipple with smaller hole & see if it makes a difference, if she is also breast fed does she make the same sound? If yes then you need to take her to her pediatrician or even ENT to make sure that her nose, throat & larynx are ok. Good luck & enjoy your bundle of joy. ...Read more
Babies that are on a bottle feeding aren't stronger? Aren't healthier? I'm bottle feeding should I be worry or feel guilty?
Relative issue: Breast fed infants, even if breast fed for a few weeks, seem to have better life outcomes than those started on the bottle initially. There are also living immune factors that breast milk has that reduce some of babies illnesses. That said, there has been tremendous improvements in formulas in the past 3 decades and babies thrive. I think mom's have to do whatever it takes and not accept guilt for it. ...Read more
Bottle feeding: Breastfeeding is best for your baby but if you cannot breastfeed, bottle feeding with an infant formula is acceptable. It can be harmful if the bottle is propped up to feed (choking/aspiration), if the milk is old or if the baby is falling asleep with the bottle in their mouth (cavaties). There are other reasons the bottle may or may not be safe but these are the main ones. ...Read more
Some believe nipple confusion is the main problem switching back and forth in feeding method. Babies have to put a little more work into getting the milk to drop down from the breast vs suckling a bottle. I have lots of parents who use both methods and rarely have I seen true nipple confusion.

My child is 4and half month old his blood suger level is 141 after bottle feeding sweet milk. What it may be su?
Likely sampling issu: A random blood glucose will always be affected by sampling technique, which can be hard in infants. When can we introduce our 3 month old baby to the bottle feeding? We fear that bottle feeding might bring the chances for infection. Plz suggest
Now: You can introduce a bottle as soon as breast feeding is well established- I usually recommend at about one month of age. Its helpful if someone other than mom feeds the baby the bottle and if mom leaves the house so the baby won't cry to nurse instead! To decrease chance of infection make sure you clean and sterilize (in boiling water) the bottle equipment. Clean after each use. ...Read more

Depends on the child: Some kids need more nurturing than others and will seek out the cuddle time at the breast well into the 2nd yr. If your infant needs cuddle time, do as long as desired. When kids start to walk, they may loose interest in cuddle time. When you have to chase them down to bf its time to quit. Bottles are easy, when baby will take well from a hard spout sippy cup start the wean. ...Read more

How many oz milk can we give to 1 yr boy at night bed time n tips how to encourage baby to leave bottle feeding?
No milk at bedtime: A full tummy at bed time does not make kids sleep better and if anything teaches them to want to eat again before going back to sleep if they wake. If they are bottle huggers, and use it for comfort, put only water in it from now on. You will quit eroding his teeth and might avoid a set of caps.
