Any advice? I have had protein in my urine since 2005. Anyone have a clue of why I have protein in my urine?

Underlying kidney dz: presence of protein in the urine is usually suggestive of underlying kidney disease. When the kidney filters get damaged the protein from blood tends to leak into the urine and causes further damage. most common causes are diabetes and high blood pressure. Common finding: The stones you have can rough up your urinary tract and result in some minor protein loss in the urine.Some folks shed a little protein while they are upright but not if they are asleep, a benign positional loss. I'm a SLE patient just want to ask reason why I had a protein in my urine test.I am taking prednisone 5mg/day last month I'm taking 10mg/day.
Need to check: SLE can affect the kidneys. You don't say how much protein, but ask your Rheumatologist if important because Lupus Nephritis usually needs more treatment than prednisone alone. Trace of protein: You need to have a 24 h hour urine collection to see how much protein in your urine/day. Protein excretion by a diseased kidney is not constant, rather it is sporadic over 24 hours. Rule out orthostatic: Many healthy young people have so called orthostatic proteinuria, i.e. Present when they are up & about but not at night when recumbent. It is benign. Mt bladder 2 hours after lying down, then have first voided am urine tested. Trace protein when found is usually benign.
