Why is there bloody mucus in my stool after an enema? Should I be worried?

Possibly: Blood tinged discharge can be related to trauma from the enema but it should be evaluated with direct visualization (ie. Colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy) to make sure it is not related to proctitis (inflammation) or a polyp or cancer. ...Read more

Is it normal for a child to have mucus in stool after using an enema?

Is it normal for a child to have mucus in stool after using an enema?

Perhaps...: Enemas are almost never used in my pediatric practice, so the 1st concern is what triggered the need for an enema? I would never recommend an enema for your child unless specifically ordered by your pediatrician. The type of enema used may have caused the mucous--or perhaps this mucous was due to the irritant effect of whatever made the use of an enema necessary. If bloody, call your doctor now. ...Read more

I took a fleet enema and an hour later i went to release my bowels and i saw i had mucus mixed in with my stool. Should be concerned?

Probably not: Mucus is normally produced by the colonic epithilial cells, so it is probably nothing to be concerned about. What is more concerning is that you were able to hold the enema for an hour before evacuating. Most people can only hold the enema a few minutes. ...Read more

Terrible constipation for quite some time. Can't go unless use mag citrate or enemas. Now have small black stool with mucus. Colonoscopy on wed?

Right idea; see GI: You could have Constipation predominant IBS or an inflammatory problem of the bowel causing possible blood and/or mucus to appear. Let a Gastroenterologist (GI) interview you and assess your risk factors. It sound like a Colonoscopy is a good idea, but that test should be done once it is clear what diagnoses you are trying to rule out (especially at your young age). Good luck. ...Read more

Blood mucous: Go back to the er and have them evaluate you. There was a reason they gave you an enema. Blood per rectum could be serious or a minor problem. Without an evaluation, you will not know. Do so, as soon as possible. ...Read more

I gave myself an enema I am now having bright red bloody mucus being eliminated. Do I need to worry ?

I gave myself an enema I am now having bright red bloody mucus being eliminated. Do I need to worry
 ?

Yes.: Go to the ER now. You may have perforated your rectum or injured an artery. This needs immediate attention even if it is not painful. You may have something as simple as hemorrhoids but if you did injure the rectum that can be potentially very serious, even life threatening. If you felt resistance when introducing the enema but continued despite that resistance you likely suffered trauma. ...Read more

Do not worry: It is very highly unlikely that you have colon cancer. Drink enough water so that your urine is colorless and watery. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more
