Why Is Talcum Powder A Cause Of Ovarian Cancer
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
Is it regular, long term use of talcum powder in the genital area that increase risk of ovarian cancer? What about a handful of times only?
Is it safe to use deodorant which contain aluminium? I heard there is a risk of getting cancer especially breast cancer. How true is that?
Sometimes: The world health organization classifies talc that contains asbestos as a carcinogen and talc without asbestos as not yet classifiable. Several studies have shown an increase in ovarian cancer with talc use as high as 300% after daily use for 25 years. The problem is that some talc contains asbestos and some does not and the label does not have to disclose that it is present. Best to avoid it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How likely is I to get colon cancer? 22 male I don't smoke or drink and no family history just a lack of appetite is that a main sign of colon cancer?
Can breast cancer cause breast cysts to develop? I know it's rare for cancer in a cyst, but can a tumor be the cause of a simple cyst?
It's possible: A breast cancer may exist in a cyst if there is a mass in the cyst or in the wall of the cyst. A simple cyst is unlikely to be cancerous. Usually cancerous cysts are complex and may have separations within it. In any event either removal, aspiration with follow up, or repeat imaging my be needed to ensure the cyst is not cancerous. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
With no family history of colon cancer and im 22 if I have poor appetite what is the chance it could be cause of colon cancer?
Highly unlikely: At your age, the most common cause of a poor appetite would be emotional, such as depression, anxiety, or tremendous stress. There are also medical conditions (like ulcers or bowel inflammation, problems in the pituitary, chronic infections or inflammations) that can decrease your appetite. Medications and drug use (like cocaine) can also cause a poor appetite. Please see your doctor to evaluate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What can cause pain under the arm? Is this a sign of breast? Grandmother recently died of breast cancer. How common is breast cancer in a 24 year old?
No real evidence: Relax. I tracked this down and it's invented. You make formaldehyde in your own body. This kind of campaign is driven by people's understandable, somewhat-rational preference for "natural" stuff, but this one has no basis. If this were true, a research piranhas could make a lifetime rep -- how science is driven -- by proving it. The stuff is a skin sensitizer and some people are allergic to it. ...Read more
Could you tell me if talc causes cancer, why is it that it is found in antacid tablets and makeup?
I have heard how benzene is known to cause cancer and it's a derivative of petroleum so is there any amount of it on vaseline?
Forgive my frankness: Everything can be "shown to cause cancer" if you do some bad studies, and in fact the law in California requires essentially everything to be labeled as "known to cause cancer." In real life, people who work around huge amounts of benzene have gotten a high rate of leukemia. The traces in vaseline are infinitesimal. You cannot avoid all carcinogens. Get comfortable with this. I had to. Best wishes ...Read more
Found out there is also a risk of breast cancer in my family. Could a mastectomy be considered preventive medicine in my case?
Sometimes: Usually this is only considered if the patient has a known genetic predisposition, such as hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (associated with brca1 and brca2). Talk to your doctor to see if your family history meets the criteria for testing for an inherited cancer syndrome. Note that these syndromes only make up a small fraction of the cancer diagnosed here. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I'm 24 years old, is it harmful using deodorant as my mother died because of breast cancer at age 45? I heard deodorant causes/ leads breast cancer
Not at all: I am so sorry to hear about your mother. That must have been extremely difficult for you. It is still ok to use deodorant. Do make sure that you examine your breasts regularly, and insist that your doctor do the same. Even in the us, doctors are often too perfunctory in their breast examinations. With a family history of early breast cancer, you cannot afford that. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
