Why Is Talcum Powder A Cause Of Ovarian Cancer
It is a cancer which arises from the ovary. This cancer is typically silent, producing little or no symptoms till it spreads, first into the pelvic area and later into the peritoneal cavity leading to fluid accumulation(ascites) which is often the first symptom. Despite its late presentation, there is a reasonable treatment for it, with some long term survivors even ...Read more
Maybe: Great question. There is some data that talc crystals have been found on surface ovarian cancers increasing the suspicion that talc is involved in ovarian cancer. There is also data that getting a tubal ligation, which can prevent talc crystals from getting to ovary, can decrease the risk of ovarian cancer. However, the exact answer is not known. Best idea is to avoid talc in the vagina or vulva. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What's products should I stay away from that has talcon powder in it Bc it's cause ovarian cancer?
I don't believe it: You're 20 and too young to have really grasped the extent of deception in this world. Most physicians think that the "scientific studies" showing a link between cancer and talcum powder are the result of recall bias -- ask a question the right way, and you'll get results that aren't true. If you believe all the scare stuff online and from lawyers, you'll end up unable to do anything. ...Read more
I have used baby powder for years & now they say it cause ovarian cancer what should I look for if I have it ?
Stop worrying: "They" are lawyers trying to make money for their clients. There's no real science here. These claims have been around for four decades and most of us still think they're fake -- the result of recall bias. Ovarian cancer is mostly an older woman's disease in any case. If you let internet fears limit you, you'll end up unable to do anything with your life at all. Be discerning. ...Read more
I read that baby powder with talc, can cause ovarian cancer. I used it about 20 times in my life in the genital area, about 10 years ago. What is my risk?
I doubt it: I have been following this stuff since the 1970's and I think it's junk science. Epidemiology by its nature generates an enormous amount of garbage. The claim does't make sense biologically and I am sorry it is turning out to be a money-maker for tort law. Don't worry and use cornstarch from now on. ...Read more
I have urinary incontinence and my underwear is always wet, I use baby powder as a panty liner. Does baby powder cause uterine or ovarian cancer?
No: This is worrisome though, especially if it's well above the reference range and there's no clear explanation. (Mild elevations mean little and the range is set so that several percent of healthies fall above.) Get with your physician about this. ...Read more

Low Risk: While Talc powder is a known risk factor, the prevalence of ovarian cancer is very low in the general population ( Approximately 1.3 percent of women will be diagnosed with ovary cancer at some point during their lifetime).
