No: Any oxygen saturation above 90% is ok, but most healthy people have oxygen sats between 95-100%. But, even being 94% can be normal. Oxygen saturation varies minute to minute, so one simple measurement may not give the whole picture. Moreover, pulse oximetry can be notoriously inaccurate, so make sure the measurement is truly accurate. But, in general, 95% saturation is great. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

The impact of transient low levels has a lot to do with how low & what additional metabolic levels occurred at the same time. Fetal oxygen levels seldom rise above 60 prior to birth but their metabolism can handle this. Don't assume brain injury is expected. ...Read more
Easier to breathe...: "room air" is approximately 21% oxygen. People need oxygen to make their vital organs (brain and others) function well. If a person's lungs are damaged, that person may not absorb oxygen well. By administering oxygen to the patient, the percentage of oxygen in the "air" is increased allowing for the person to oxygenate their blood more readily and thereby deliver oxygen to vital organs. ...Read more
