Why Is My Snot Cold When I Blow My Nose
Rhinorrhea: The mere act of inhaling and exhaling cools nasal secretions, therefore when you blow your nose the "snot" is cooler than your body temperature. Also, the colder the outside temperature is, the colder your nasal secretions are. ...Read more

I recently had a cold I'm just starting to get over. When I blow my nose I notice blood in my mucus, should I be worried?
Don't worry try Neti: But do watch for changes. It's probably surface capillaries the have been quite irritated and have broken. It should improve as you recover and you may want to use a neti pot saline wash instead of blowing. If it stays or gets worse - see your doctor. But it should heal up. Best! ...Read more
Almost 2 weeks with cold and I now have bright yellow mucus that I am coughing up and when I blow my nose. ..What is going on?
Probably Sinusitis: The swelling inside the nose from the cold has likely swelled the sinus openings closed, causing a sinus infection. While it will likely go away on it's own (if you wait long enough), antibiotics will make this go away much more quickly. ...Read more
Bloody mucus every time I blow my nose. I had a bad cold since then the mucus never stops. And pain on right side of my head and neck.
See your doc: It may be that you just have significant irritation/inflammation of your nasal passages/sinuses from noninfectious inflammation but it's also possible that you have a more concerning bacterial sinusitis that may require antibiotic therapy. At least consider, in the intermin, nasal saline irrigation several times a day. It's a start. But boil your water prior to use (and let cool) to sterile. ...Read more
I've had a cold since Christmas Eve (about 11 days) and when I blow my nose now the mucus is a bright yellow colour, I've also been very tired recentl?
Use this or see Dr.: Now that you have noticed a change in color of your nasal drainage, this could be a sign that you are developing a sinus infection. I would recommend that you start using nasal salt water rinses. Use over-the-counter from different brands (Niel Med, AYR,) or you can make it yourself by warming up 8 oz of water for 20 sec in microwave and add ½ tsp of non- iodized salt. Rinse and blow twice/day. ...Read more

I'm 8 weeks pregnant I've had a cold for the past 2 weeks. I have been coughing up mucus and blood also when I blow my nose. Is this normal?
Common: Pregnancy increases the vascularity of your nasal passages. Sometimes prolonged coughing during pregnancy can cause you to get a nose bleed and this can show up when you cough and also in your nasal mucus. Its important to mention it to your ob to make sure there isn't something else going on. (For example, TB can make you cough up blood but its uncommon.) Best wishes! ...Read more
cold symptoms for 1.5 weeks. I traveled on an airplane, made my ear pressure worse now all sounds are muffled & very bloody mucus when I blow my nose?
I've had a sinus cold for 6 days now. Thick yellow mucus when I cough or blow my nose. Horrible sinus pressure headaches. Do I need an antibiotic?
Probability says NO: Unless you've got fevers and other symptoms of a bacterial infection (such as a positive STREP), or bronchial expectorations which have been cultured positive for pathogens then, your yellow mucus is as informatively distinguishing between bacterial or viral infection as the smile of a politician is helpful to me to tell between sincerity at wanting to help me on an issue vs. Having TERRIBLE GAS! ...Read more
The quality of snot: What this is just dried, very thin, normal mucous that forms a flattened layer over your mucous membranes. This tends to happen when the drainage is very thin and the air is very dry. It is not skin. It is not anything to worry about (unless it bleeds regularly). ...Read more

I've had bright red blood in my snot for over a year now. I have it everytime I blow my nose. I also have a constantly blocked nose. What is it?
Probably dryness: Most likely the inside of your nose is dry assuming you're not using any intranasal medications. In some patients dryness creates an inflammatory condition so there is also congestion. Suggest saline to cleanse any mucous or crusts then sesame oil 3-4 drops each nostril if not, allergic to sesame. Do this 2-4 times daily. Get evaluated.: Assuming this was viral from the get-go, you should be better by now. I am getting over a cold. When I blow my nose my left ear pops and I get sudden vertigo. What should I do?
Eustachian tube: When you are blowing your nose you are forcing air into the eustachian tube which connects your nasal passages to your middle ear. Antihistamines (zyrtec, allegra, benadryl, (diphenhydramine) etc) can help keep that tube open, but often this takes time for the inflammation to settle down. If it is really bothering you, see your doctor and see if a steroid nose spray would be beneficial. ...Read more
