Why Is My Period Black And Light
Why is my period black and thick and light? This has never happened before. I'm only 28 and a mom of three. My periods have always been sporadic.
Check preg test: The first step is to do a home a pregnancy test. They are cheap, quick and reliable and then you will know for sure. If the test is negative you are not pregnant. If you do not want to be pregnant consider seeing your obgyn to discuss contraception options. This will keep you from getting pregnant and give you menstrual cycle control.
The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and ...Read more
Old blood: Although it's not very unusual to have some dark red, brown, or even black blood or clots sometimes- which typically represents old blood from in the uterus, cervix, or vagina from previous periods- it's a bit more unusual to have an entire period of old blood. You may consider seeing your doc just to have her examine you for reassurance.
Why is my period black? When I go to change my tampon, the blood, or whatever it is, is black. Why? Should I be concerned? It's been like this the past few periods. Is it even blood?
Blood: Blood from the period can appear black especially towards the end of the period. It is usually nothing to be concerned about. If you have other symptoms then see your gynecologist, but many women notice this occasionally and it usually varies from month to month. There are some gynecologists who feel it may represent a low iron level, so consider adding a vitamin with iron to your daily regimen.
Blood colors...: The color of blood relates to how long the blood has been sitting inside the body. Red is newer. Brown or black is older, as some of the blood products have started to break down. If there are no additional symptoms, and if periods are regular in timing and not too heavy, having brown/black/red colors may be normal. One can ask the doctor about it during one's annual exam (sooner if worried).
No: Periods can be bright red if bleding is heavy or fresh, and can be dark rusty colored if light, or just the last days. As long as your periods are REGULAR, the color of blood is variable.
Not sure: Black dots in period could be small blood clots but without looking at them it is hard to know. I recommend you show them to your doctor.
Dark blood: Is usually old, deoxygenated blood.Get a more detailed answer ›
Hi, im due on my period, and at the mo im losing a black odourless discharge what could it be please?
Black = old blood: The color of the blood in your menstrual cycle is not useful or relevant. It reflects how long the blood has been sitting inside your uterus or at the back of your vagina. Red is new. Brown or black blood is older and the blood products have started to break down. Menstrual blood color is not something you need to pay attention to. If your cycles are heavy consider birth control for regulation.See 1 more doctor answer
Not strictly: Normal, but it would be common. I woudn't worry about it unless it becomes more erratic in next few cycles.See 1 more doctor answer
Past experience: You are the best person to judge your menstrual cycle. Think of all the periods you have had in your life and then compare this one to all of the others. Normal cycle variation is normal from month to month.
Dark: Dark or black blood is often a sign of old blood. If you are not ovulating regularly and having abnormal periods (dysfunctional uterine bleeding which is periods that do not follow ovulation) then it can consist of a lot of old blood that has been in the uterus. This is a sign of perimenopause (within a year or so of menopuase). Please consult your doctor for any further issues or concerns. Take care.
