Why is my menstrual cycle not regular after years of being on time every month?

Natural???: A woman's menstrual cycle characteristics change naturally over her life time. You were probably irregular at the start of menses and you will likely be irregular at the end of menses. Before menopause, the cycles become closer together then farther apart and more irregular. Normal women also have changes based on weight, medications and health status. I hope this information helps. ...Read more

The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and ...Read more

Hormones: Your pituitary makes precursor hormones that tell your ovary when and how much estrogen and Progesterone to make, which determines the length of your cycle. Cycles do change over time. So long as no pituitary or thyroid problem, then change in cycle is due solely to changes in natural hormone production. Birth control pills can help regulate to 28 days, but unnecessary if that's only concern. ...Read more

Need evaluation: By definition this is abnormal bleeding (not true menstrual cycles).Endometriosis can cause abnl menses, but depending on your age, weight, other causes may be contributing. Hx of irregular/skipping periods can result in build up of lining in uterus then heavy/irreg bleeding; thyroid problms, polyps, precancerous changes or cancer(of cvx or ut), ovarian cysts, fibroids can cause.Need to see gyn dr. ...Read more

Its been 3 years since my first menstrual cycle, and it's still not regular, what's wrong?

Ovulation: Consistent ovulation in the absence of contraception is sometimes difficult for new period starters. Your first cycle at 13 was a little later than the average of 11 to 12 years old so give it another year of periods to see if by 17 things become regular. If not see a ob-gyn md for answers before you head off to adulthood at age 18.. ...Read more

I'm 28 years old. I've pco. My menstrual cycle was almost normal till june. I started regular gym and my cycle skipped in july. Why is it happening?

Most likely: With the exercise it decreased the amount of estrogen you make and so you are not making enough to build up enough tissue to have a period , but you shoudl see your gyn as your gyn can do blood work and an ultrasound to check the endometrium. ...Read more

My menstrual cycle is always regular. every 28 days for 3 days. last month it was 2 days late and this month it came 10 days early.it is a normal flow?

Pregnancy/Normal: The first thing that needs to be ruled out if AT ALL possible is pregnancy. If it is a possibility do a home pregnancy test. This could be a pregnancy or a "chemical pregnancy". The other thing is that at 23 this is a common occurrence. If the flow was normal and this was a one time thing no worries. If your next period is abnormal this needs to be checked. Good luck and don't worry. ...Read more

Pls finish question: Hi! There is no "best" cycle. 28-day cycle is the average with normal being from 21 to 35 days. If your cycles are 33-36 days but pretty regular they are probably ovulatory but if they are more irregular then ovulation may not be occurring which is not a health problem unless you are trying to get pregnant. So it depends on what exactly bothers you about your periods. (your english is fine!) ...Read more

I am 17 and my menstrual cycle isn't regular. I've my periods every 3 months. Is it fine if this happens?

Maybe okay: At 17, the communication between your pituitary gland that tells your ovaries what hormones to make is still maturing. It's possible that this is why your periods are irregular. It's also possible that extremes of weight such as too thin or too heavy can be a cause as well. Thyroid can also play a role. At some point, maybe by 18, if you're periods aren't regular, make an appt with gynecologist. ...Read more

20 years old and the last menstrual cycle i had on 8/15/15 hasn't fully ended. It will go away for a day then come back every two days, more with sex.

20 years old and the last menstrual cycle i had on 8/15/15 hasn't fully ended. It will go away for a day then come back every two days, more with sex.

It sounds like...: ...the menstrual lining didn't complete shed during your 8/15 menstrual period. What remains is coming out in fits & starts. This is common in menstrual cycles during which ovulation DOESN'T occur. If this happens to you repeatedly and/or your pelvic pain between periods hasn't been evaluated, you should make an appointment with your Gyno. Best wishes. Dr. Anne. ...Read more

I'm 25 yrs old and i don't get my menstrual cycle ever month. At the most, i get it 3 times a year. Do I have pcos?

Could be PCOS or ...: To diagnose pcos, we need 2 out of 3 of: 1. Irregular/no periods 2. Clinical signs like acne, hair growth and/or blood tests showing too much male-type hormones 3. Ultrasound appearance of polycystic ovaries: high volumes or antral follicle counts. We check for other causes of irregular/no cycles including low egg supply, thyroid, prolactin, adrenal gland issues. See an OB or a rei specialist. ...Read more
