Knee conditions arise from a variety of reasons, and we would need an understanding of the cause of your knee issue, an examination of your knee, and possibly an x-ray. I have got CRPS and my knee keeps dislocating. Should I get a knee immobiliser? How long should I have it on for and do I need it all the time? Thanks

Until you are strong: CRPS isn't associated with knee dislocation, so be sure your PCP doesn't think something else should be done. Stronger muscles will help prevent recurrent dislocation ( or more likely, subluxation of the kneecap) but a flexible or hinged sleeve will help until you can build up strength..which I know is hard with CRPS. Keep trying!! ...Read more

Sprained ankle five months ago and still doesn't feel well. I can't dance or run on it at all. What should I do to make it feel 100%? Is it too late?

Sprained ankle five months ago and still doesn't feel well. I can't dance or run on it at all. What should I do to make it feel 100%? Is it too late?

See ORS: Residual pain and / or instability 5 months after an ankle sprain is not normal. See an ors for evaluation. Sometimes u may have a small 'chip' on your talus, 'scar tissue' forming in your ankle( impingement) or an incompletely healed ankle ligament. Exam, x-rays and MRI can differentiate. Good luck! ...Read more

I damaged my tfcc 4 months ago. Its healing very slowly. How long do I have before its to late to get surgery and will a cast make any difference.

Depends: Tfcc injuries (a form of wrist sprain) can take some time to heal. Sometimes they do not heal. If you still have symptoms after 4 months of treatment and therapy, you nay need surgical intervention. I usually try an injection first. See a wrist specialist for an evaluation and diagnosis. Then consider your options in light of the surgeon's recommendations. ...Read more

How many weeks with a disc/sciatica injury and pain before I should start to worry that it is taking too long to improve?

It depends: Lumbar, Cervical? Depends severity of your symptoms, whether you have weakness on physical exam, the duration of your symptoms. If you had symptoms and got pain meds/muscle relaxants and followed up at one month and still had symptoms, did you get an MRI? Do you have stenosis? Still Weakness? Did you get a surgical intervention? Complicated question. http://www.aafp.org/afp/2008/0601/p1607.html ...Read more
