Why is my baby spitting up a lot and fussy?

Why is my baby spitting up a lot and fussy?

Depends: Most babies spit up from time to time and cry when hungry, frightened, sleepy, in need of a diaper change, or simply to gain some parental attention. If crying is excessive, high-pitched, or unresponsive to soothing efforts, it may indicate a problem for which your healthcare provider should be consulted. Likewise, if spit-ups are large volume, greenish, or very forceful, seek medical attention. ...Read more

My 2week old baby is projectile spitting up every time he is fed even with sensitive formula. He isn't fussy. No gas. What could be going on?

Projectile vomiting: Without more details like: is he making the normal number of wet diapers? How is his weight? How much and how often are you feeding him? It is difficult to know for sure. One thing is for certain he needs an evaluation - at 2 weeks of age he's at incredibly high risk to become dehydrated very quickly. The cause needs to be investigated and quickly. Call your pediatrician on-call now. ...Read more

Almost 3 mnth old formula fed daughter has poop in almost every diaper, extremely uncharacteristically fussy, inconsolable, spitting up frequently...?

Tough situation!: Oh you poor thing- you must be so worried! And tired! The part that strikes me as most concerning is that this is unlike her. We'd agree that it's normal for babies to cry, babies at this age can be very colicky. I'm not worried about the diapers, maybe she's coming down with a virus. Check her temperature and if > 100.3 rectally, if bloody or dark green vomit, take her to the ER please. ...Read more

My infant is starting to spit up during feelings. Do I continue to feed him and how can I help prevent him spitting up?

My infant is starting to spit up during feelings. Do I continue to feed him and how can I help prevent him spitting up?

Feedings and spittin: Hard answer without knowing your infant's age. But are you "burping" your baby after feedings. Babies take in alot of air using bottles and nipples - burping them will reduce the air bubble. Sometimes spitting up is due to formula issues - changing to a non cow's milk formula may help. Gaviscon drops may also help. If the spitting is getting worse - dicuss this with your doctor. ...Read more

Hi. My baby spits up a lot. He takes acid Medicin. But he is still spitting up a lot. He is gaining weight. But he just spits up a lot. Any advice ?

You hit the: nail on the head, he is gaining weight. Some babies despite what you do just spit up a lot. Their little valve at the top of the stomach just doesn't work very well yet. Every Time they burp, they bring up some stomach contents with the air. You and I don't do that cause our valves havre matured. It will get better. Use lots of burp clothes. As long as weight is going up, no worries! ...Read more

Is switching baby formula brands dangerous my baby is spitting up a lot so dr said to switch to enfamil ar from similac advance baby is 1 month old?

Not specificly: The switch is not much of a change. You go from one companies bovine formula to another companies bovine formula thickened with rice solids. Thickening can sometimes reduce spit up.You could simply add a half teaspoon of rice cereal/btl & do the same with the similac. Similac has a "sensitive" that changes to a soy protein source & removes the lactose. Either product are good nutrition & may help. ...Read more

Baby 4 weeks old. Spitting up a lot&sometimes a little clear liquid. No fever. Been using 1/2 formula 1/2 pedialyte seems to have no help. Please help?

No simple fix: Reflux precautions: burp baby every 1oz or so, keep head elevated for 30 minutes or so after each feed, no pressure on tummy. A short trial of pedialyte or 1/2 strength formula is ok, but it needs to be short (no more than a days worth of feeds). Questions- making at least 8 wet diapers/day? Is the spitting up getting progressive or projectile? Have you discussed thickened feeds with your doc? ...Read more

What can you give to a 6 month old baby who is spitting up like crazy and not keeping much down? Can they have chicken broth etc..? He's crying a lot

If he's spitting up: that much and crying, he should be seen by his pediatrician. Depending on what foods he already eats, chicken broth may or may not be appropriate, but likely is not. In order to treat him properly and give you the best advice, I would recommend consulting with his doctor. If you're a HealthTap Prime patient, you could also start with a consult with one of us there. ...Read more
