Why is it that my IUD gives me such sharp pain sometimes?

Why is it that my IUD gives me such sharp pain sometimes?

Might not be IUD: If the iud is in the proper place, it normally won't hurt. You can check to see if your strings are in the normal place. Your doctor can do an exam and order and ultrasound to check placement also. Lower abdominal pain can also be caused by problems with the bowels, uterus, ovaries, and uterine lining (called endometriosis), i would recommend seeing your doctor for evaluation of your pain. ...Read more

I had gotten the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud a week ago today, but ever since I got this I have had sharp pain in my right side shooting into my thigh. Please help?

See Mirena (levonorgestrel) MD: Go back to the MD who inserted the Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD and make sure that it is placed properly inside the uterus via exam, ultrasound or X-ray. The pain you are having suggests that a nerve to your thigh is being stimulated which should not occur with proper IUD placement and retention. You can vaginally place a finger in the vagina and feel for the IUD strings yourself as well. ...Read more

Had an iud Implanted about 2 months ago and right now during Intercourse started having sharp pain. Do I have to go into the er or will the pain pass?

Depends on things: It's difficult to know whether your pain if from your IUD placement or whether it it is related only to acts of intercourse. Pain is a "symptom". If the pain is severe, constant or occurring at very frequent intervals you should go to the ER. If it occurs only during intercourse, see your GYN. An U/S can confirm if it is still in the right place. ...Read more
