Stressing out.: Thinking about things can raise hr - or lower. Pain, fear. Many stimulants and meds can raise heart rate. Peripheral vasodilation as in heat exposure. Low inhaled oxygen content. A good burn or a good anemia. A pulmonary embolism or dehydration or heart attack. None of these are as good as exercise and coffee. ...Read more

Stop drinking soda: I recommend stop drinking soft drinks: they are not good for you anyways. Then call your physician for an exam. You might have a reaction to something in the soda, quite possibly related to the sugar or the sugar substitute if it's diet soda. ...Read more

Can I mix claritin, (loratadine) Pepcid complete and drink alcohol? I have the Asian flush as they call it and get rapid heart beat, headache, red flush+warmth.

You can, but…: The Asian flush, as you term it , is caused by an enzyme which makes you metabolize alcohol into acetaldehyde. Since this is a genetic issue, Pepcid and Claritin (loratadine) will not help, although you can take them with alcohol in reasonable doses. Also, there is an increased risk of esophageal cancer with alcohol intake in patients with the Asian flush, so you should avoid regular drinking. Good luck. ...Read more

Panic attacks: I'm not sure how long you've been on lexapro, (escitalopram) but it sounds like you and your doctor need to have a conversation about your ongoing symptoms. There are other medicines to work with -- and you should also be in talk therapy since that will increase effectiveness of treatment. If not working with a psychiatrist, consider that too. Anxiety shows itself: In may ways. Once can mentally obsess over things that frighten the person or do behaviors to keep danger away, e.g., ritual behaviors, checking and re-checking. Physically there can be heart palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, sleeplessness, etc. Please go to a mental health professional for support if you think you have an anxiety disorder.
