Why is it important to support your wrist while using the keyboard?

Prevent CTS/OA: Repetitive movements may cause osteoarthritis changes. Using fingers often, moving the ligaments and tendons of the hand may cause carpal tunnel syndrome which is irritation or compression of the median nerve at the level of the wrist debilitating the hand and very specific areas of the hand and fingers. ...Read more

How important is a wrist rest for a keyboard?

Focus on Ergonomics: The main reason to use a wrist brace is to keep your wrist and hand flat. Angulation of the wrist upwards and downwards on a continuous basis causes strain on the nerves passing through the wrist and may result in carpal tunnel syndrome. So what is more important is to have a proper seating and desk that avoids this angulation. Read more about better ergonomics. ...Read more

I got my wrist cut. Doctors said i was lucky that i didn't cut an important tendon, but i did cut one. So they just stitched me up. Is it normal?

Palmaris longus: The palmar is longus is a tendon that has no motion function like others in your wrist, but is thought to help stabilize the wrist. It is commonly harvested for use in tendon or other reconstructive surgery. If this is all you cut, you are lucky! the median nerve and other important tendons that would impair finger flexion could have easily been cut. Major problem! lucky it wasn't a deeper cut! ...Read more

Ok so im a gymanast and my wrist started to crack when i rotated it and now it hurts to hold myself in a handstand, front support, and swinging on bar?

Ok so im a gymanast and my wrist started to crack when i rotated it and now it hurts to hold myself in a handstand, front support, and swinging on bar?

Physical exam first: An exam by your doctor is the first place to start. S/he may order an Xray if there is concern for a fracture. If the Xray is clear you may have a problem with your cartilage that only an MRI can see. Don't ignore this, because gymnastics shouldn't be painful. Your problem will get worse without a proper evaluation and a plan to correct it. Good luck! ...Read more

My wrist is weak after hitting it falling on stairs it's not strong enough to carry anything without support and hurts to move shall I wrap it up?

Go to doctor and get: an xray. Certainly put a wrist support and arm sling support until you can be seen by your doctor and referred to an orthopedic surgeon to see if any fracture occurred. Don't delay, ice, elevate, and rest. Let your doctor decide what to take for pain. It may be more serious than you think! ...Read more

Can a fall to wrist cause cts? I've had an MRI which shows scapholunate widening but x-rays don't support this find. I'm still having pain 18mths on

Yes: Any fall that causes change in the carpal anatomy and/or swelling within the carpal tunnel can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Also the MRI is more sensitive study than plain x-rays particularly if the x-ray was not a clenched fist view which will highlight the scapho-lunate gap. Follow up with a hand surgeon. ...Read more

I use computer a lot at work, do you have any recommendations for a wrist splint/guard/support or any other methods to protect my wrist?

Ergonomics: A splint will not help as much as an ergonomic desk. You want your feet on the ground and your back straight in a good a Support chair. Your wrists need to be straight with your elbows bent at 90 deg. So you might need a pullout drawer. The splint will only help teach you the position. ...Read more
