Why Is It Hard For Me To Breathe When I Spend Time In The Basement
I have difficulty breathing since spring, at times not getting enough air unless I stretch and breathe deeply. I quit taking loratadine 1 week ago and the symptoms have nearly stopped. Is it related?
Breathing problems: A few conditions can cause breathing problems. Asthma, copd, heart diseases, liver / kidney / thyroid diseases are the common causes and they are treated differently. Loratatine is usually safe. It can causes bronchospasm, and difficulty breathing as in any medications due to your sensitivity to that particular med. However, if it is the case, it's unlikely you can take it that long. ...Read more

What does it mean when when im eating or talking I have difficulty breathing its like im hold my breath or hard to breathe when doing anything?
I have difficulty breathing (shortness of breath) along with coughing and wheezing sound during winter season especially night time.
Asthma?: If this is ongoing, my first step would be to rule out asthma. Corticosteroids produced by the body wax and wane depending on circadian rhythm, which results in frequent nighttime symptoms for asthmatics. Shortness of breath, chest tightness, coughing are typical. Primary care provider, Allergy/Immunology specialist, or Pulmonologist are good places to start. ...Read more

Bacteria Chest Infection cleared up with Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) but still have difficulty breathing a bit and still feels hard to breathe. Is this normal?
Reactive airways: Given your history of allergies and persistent cough during the winter, you are at higher risk for developing reactive airways, or asthma, which can be triggered by lung infections. Reactive airways require inhalers for treatment, which would explain why only your symptoms of bronchitis or pneumonia improved. Residual pneumonia or pleuritis could also be the cause. Recheck needed :) ...Read more

Variable cause: Could be anything for a deviated septum in your nose to a collapsed left lung (symptoms occur when the good side is compromised). A chest x-ray is indicated. Pulse oximetry when you lie right side down should be measured. A PEFR measurement during sx would also help. ...Read more

My baby in sleep makes snoring sounds as if he has difficulty breathing r like some blockage. He breathes normal wen not sleeping. Anything to worry?
Maybe. Make a movie.: To show the pediatrician what's happening, the parents can make a movie of the shirtless baby's breathing. Show the face, chest, and tummy at the same time, so the doctor can see how everything moves during breathing. A minute into the movie, open the mouth to show how the breathing changes; and then a minute later, close the mouth to show how the breathing changes again. ...Read more

Need ENT/ allergy: And pulmonary consults. If everything has been tested and has come back normal but I would recommend that you get a referral to a tertiary care university center for a more high-level evaluation. I can't tell if your ocd perhaps even plays a role in this. You should have your psychiatrist on board with these consultations. By far, the most common reason for sleep apnea (disordered breathing during sleep) is obesity. With weight gain, the tissues surrounding your chest, throat and nasal passages become heavy and floppy. This makes it harder for these areas to inflate with breathing leading to loud snoring and difficulty with proper oxygenation.
There are a few things you should do.
-first, make an appointment to see your doctor. Talk to them about your problems and have them examine you for signs of rarer diseases that could be causing your symptoms such as heart failure.
-create a diet and exercise plan. Weight loss is the best long-term way to treat sleep apnea due to weight gain.
-consider a sleep study. If your symptoms are severe and are affecting your daily life, consider a sleep study to evaluate your disordered breathing.
-other treatments besides weight loss include CPAP (continued positive airway pressure), surgery, or muscle strengthening exercises. Talk to your doctor about your best options. Good luck! ...Read more
