Why Is Ice Pack Put Under Arm Groin To Reduce Fever
Left an ice pack too long on my skin, now skin is ice burned. Skin went from cold/stiff, to red/slightly swollen skin. How do I remedy?
Urgent care or ER: If the area was white, cold and stiff or hard and if it then becomes red and swollen as it warms, you need to seek professional medical assistance. Usually the area will form blisters and permanent "bruising" or skin discoloration, which indicates long-term damage and possible destruction of blood vessels. Get it seen asap. Fever of 100.2 and swollen lymph nodes in groin, armpit, and inside of elbow.... blood work says no sign of infection. What else could be going on?
Thoughts: Blood work may not be definitive. Infection remains most likely. Other possibilities include lymphoproliferative disease or even lymphoma, both rare compared with infection. Continue to work with your physician to determine cause, and lymph node biopsy may be the next step (not knowing what blood work was done and more about your medical history). ...Read more

Unusual. Follow-up.: Was the cause of the "stomach flu" ever determined? Was it viral? Epstein-Barr / Mono? Are you sure nodes are swollen? How? (Doctor's exam?) Swollen lymph nodes without symptoms (fever, wt loss, &c) is unusual. If infectious, they should go away in 2 wks. It's impossible to tell in this forum, so use HealthTap Prime or TTYD about what the causes may be. A biopsy may be necessary or reassuring. GL. ...Read more

For a fever, when are you supposed to apply an ice pack on your forehead and when are you supposed to bundle up in blankets for extra warmth if ever?
Grandmother's advice: Both of these treatments are wive's tales like the theory that going out in the cold without a jacket causes you to catch a cold.Use a blanket when you feel cold; if you're shivering it's your body's way of generating heat and, if that heat results in a fever, take tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil, it will stop your shivers and start you sweating.Ice works to reduce fever if you're submerged in it. ...Read more

Hello. My arm is swollen the size of 2 golf balls after attempting to donate plasma. I was told to use heat and ice pack rotating between the 2. Is there any idea on what this is? Thank you. By the way I have donated plasma several times.
Good question: Western medicine says use ice/cold to decrease swelling and then warmth after a coupe days. Eastern medicine does not like cold at all as it causes constriction and keeps toxins local where heat increases circulation and removal of toxins. Do what makes it feel better for you. If injured, take homeopathic arnica. It helps. If it is not an injury, please be seen. ...Read more

Fevers not respondin: Viruses are common this time of year & can lead to fevers. Fevers <102 that respond to Tylenol/ Motrin are less worrisome than high fevers that don't respond.
