Get a 2nd opinion: If you have a blood pressure machine at home, please check it before you get up in the morning (lying down position). Then get up slowly with blood pressure cuff on. Repeat it about 3-5 minutes after you get up. Check if you have any symptoms between lying down and getting up. Record everything and talk to physician. Medications may be the problem. Or baroreceptor reflex may be problem. ...Read more

Can blood pressure in elderly go low and high in one day? Like 90/65 in morning & 145/100 in evening? Can it cause stroke? Should BP be normalized?

Can blood pressure in elderly go low and high in one day? Like 90/65 in morning & 145/100 in evening? Can it cause stroke? Should BP be normalized?

It is a: mistake to "over control" the blood pressure in elderly patients (although the definition of "elderly" has CHANGED and 73 is not as "old" as it used to be" A 24 hour BP monitor is available and I would strongly suggest it be used in this case. If the "episodes" of higher BP are FEW I would not treat! My opinion only! Hope it helps Dr Z ...Read more

Is high blood pressure med make your blood sugar go low, i take 15gm of blood presure in the morning and little bet later my sugar is so low like 65?

Won't affect it: Blood pressure medication won't alter blood sugar unless you change your dietary intake, exercise or medication. A blood sugar of 65 is normal if you're not on diabetes medication that can lower it below normal. ...Read more

I am on water pill and atenolol for high blood pressure. In the mornings my blood pressure is around 85/60 with heart rate 57. Is this too low?

I am on water pill and atenolol for high blood pressure. In the mornings my blood pressure is around 85/60 with heart rate 57. Is this too low?

Yes.: That blood pressure is too low. It does not seem like you have any reason to keep the BP that low. Even if you are not experiencing any symptoms due to that low BP, it does not leave much "buffer" room. I think your medications need to be adjusted to allow for higher blood pressure. Please see your doctor as soon as possible. ...Read more

Hi,my husband takes his high pressure pill in the morning, what should he do if he forgot then remembered late in the afternoon?Thx.

OK to take it: If he takes one pill a day, he should take it in the afternoon. If he forgets for a whole day, he should just resume his regular medicine regimen in the morning. Blood pressure management is a long-term affair and is unlikely to be seriously compromised by missing a single day. ...Read more

My pressure is high during early morning 140/105 , during the other part of the day it's normal, what could be the reason please advise?

My pressure is high during early morning 140/105 , during the other part of the day it's normal, what could be the reason please advise?

Maybe a dosing issue: If your on BP meds you need an evening dose to protect you over night and thru the "golden hrs" where a great deal of pts have heartattacks and srokes. Your morning meds drop the daytime BP but by end of day and into next am your BP rebounds. Twice daily BP rx will fix this. ...Read more

Is blood pressure of 138/80 high? Doc took it this morning but wasnt concerned

Needs to be repeated: It is mildly elevated, and would need to be rechecked to see if it is a trend. If it continues to be elevated, then would need to pursue treatment - may include dietary change/exercise/weight loss regimen or may also include medications. Untreated elevated blood pressure may cause strain/damage on organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys. ...Read more
