Why Does Soda Help An Upset Stomach
Old fashion Rx: A few decades ago we routinely advised patients to sip a little flat cola over ice chips to settle a stomach. Now they have an otc product "emetrol" that is based on the same idea. It works for some. The idea is to take small volumes frequently until the stomach stops the spasms.

More specific please: "upset stomach" is not enough information to help you. Do you have nausea with/without vomiting, fullness, bloating, gassiness, pain (if so in what location (s)), bleeding, diarrhea/constipation/change in baseline bowel habits, tenderness, distension? Are you pregnant, have underlying disease, >60?See 1 more doctor answer
Adrenalin: When people are anxious, the brain initiates a "fight or flight" response--as though one is being physically threatened. Hormones in the bloodstream (and direct nervous system connections) cause many physical changes associated with survival. One is to try to empty the stomach. Ginger ale (slightly: Flattened). The simplest way to reduce nausea is with ginger. You can drink slightly flattened ginger ale or nibble on crystallized ginger. Or pour boiling water over freshly sliced organic ginger & steep x 5 min in a covered pot. Sip. Aromatherapy: sweet orange (citrus sinensis), peitigrain (citrus reticulata), mandarin (citrus reticulata) are different citrus scents that can v nausea.See 1 more doctor answer
