Wait a few minutes: It takes 20 minutes after you complete a meal for your brain to realize that you have eaten and for you to feel full. If you continue to have symptoms of hunger after completing a meal, you may want to drink a glass of water to help feel fuller. Maybe its functional due to brainstem reflexes induced by eating--often exaggerated in irritable bowel syndrome resulting in altered perception of gut distension, "growling", &modified transit of food. I got growling/hunger pain in stomach, somtimes, just a few hrs after eating, constant upper discomfort, and bloating when when full. What could cause?

A few things: Including gastritis/ulcers (acid produced when food is ingested); a mass close to stomach (vs lower, in colon); gallstones; intermittent/partial or early intestinal obstruction; pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas, which secretes protein-eating enzymes). Try eating smaller more frequent meals, and see your doctor. May need a gastroenterologist for a scope (egd=esophagoduodenoscopy). ...Read more

Perhaps...: May be related to one of several things, or multiple factors. The fat/protein/carbohydrate ratio's of food directly affect how long it takes for you to feel satisfied after eating--fatty foods cause you to feel less "full" when compared to proteins or carbohydrates, whereas protein has the most effect of making you feel satisfied. Certain medications can increase appetite as well. ...Read more
