Why Does My Son Get Frequent Nose Bleeds
Other factors: Other factors can make nose bleeds more common. Allergies can both irritate the nose making it more vascular and cause a child to manipulate their nose due to itching, etc.. Some common treatments for allergies, like topical nasal steroids increase the risk of nose bleeds. Very rarely, nasal tumors found in children, like juvenile nasal angiofibroma can manifest as nose bleeds. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Some women experience nose and gum bleeding during pregnancy. Keeping well hydrated, especially with orange juice or foods high in Vitamin C, may help to strengthen your capillaries (tiny blood vessels) and reduce this bleeding. My son is 12 and has had a half dozen nose bleeds in the last week. He woke up this morning with his nose bleeding. His nose has never ever bled b4.
Epistaxis: Sometimes epistaxis (nosebleed) is mechanical from picking the nose and creates an open sore that bleeds. Another reason is a cold or allergies can make the turbinates in the nose become easily damaged and can bleed over and over. If the bleeding is coming from one side, most likely a blood vessel that can be cauterized. See an ENT. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Stimulant+Epistaxis: The #1 cause of nose bleeding in younger children is do to trauma (e.g. Nose picking) the incidence of epistaxis in patients taking vyvanse is extremely low & seen at the same frequency as in the general population. My son is 7 years old & recently this week he has been having back to back nose bleeds. A bad sign?
Nose bleeds common: Most of the time nose bleeds in kids are due to dry air +/- nose picking or rubbing, and not letting the fragile skin in the nose heal between insults. Preventive- try vaseline or neosporin to lining of nose. Try with next bleed: have him blow nose fully to get out clots + mucous, hold nose firmly just below the hard part for 5min (don't tip head back), then if stopped-don't touch! ...Read more
My son had his nose cauterized 2 years ago. The past two days he has had about a dozen severe nose bleeds. Does cauterization stop working?
The Nose Knows: Yes, it "stops" working because the nose heals, which means the cautery has its job. But it can work again if the bleeding is from the same problem. A dozen "severe" nosebleeds does not sound like fun and can get messy and even lead to dizzy/fainting problems if they are too big. So, it's near time to go get that nose checked and see if something will be necessary to quell those bleeds. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
