Why does my right calf feel numb like it is asleep?

Why does my right calf feel numb like it is asleep?

Nerve problem: You probably have a problem with the nerve that goes to that part of the leg. It can either be from the spine, or it could be a problem in the nerve just below the knee. If you are just having this symptom, and no other pain, it is probably nothing to worry about. If you notice weakness in the muscle, or worse pain with coughing, then it could be from the spine. See a doctor if that is the case. ...Read more

I have numbness left arm/fingers leg, with pain in same leg where previously broken. Feels like left side is almost asleep... What should I do.?

Get a diagnosis: Left sided numbness could be as simple as referred numbness from myofascial pain (which is caused by muscle imbalances), or even carpal tunnel in the left wrist, but could also be as serious as nerve damage from your fracture, or even a stroke. I'd recommend seeing a physiatrist or neurologist to get a clear diagnosis. Then you can target an appropriate treatment. ...Read more

Upper leg goes numb when asleep, I wake up in agony. What could cause this?

Leg numb on waking: When you are sleeping, there is reduced movements. Sometimes, one may lie in a position that compresses some nerves for hours, or compresses blood vessels that supply these nerves. These nerves then do not function properly, and there can be a sensation of numbness or tingling, even pain. With movement after you wake up, the pressure is released, and function rapidly returns to normal. ...Read more

See doctor...: How long were you sitting in that position? You need to sit in a chair and keep your foot dangling. Then, keep moving your foot. Ankle sprain: Sounds like a bad ankle sprain with swelling. The swelling could cause pressure around nerves and could be causing the tingling pain to foot and toes. Have you tried resting with icing, elevation and compression wrapping? Antiinflammatory medication like Motrin or advil (ibuprofen) will help decrease pain and swelling. Bracing may be needed too. See your physician for a plan of action. I hope this help! ...Read more

You : You are right, it could be a torn calf muscle, or it could be that you tore a vein from the trauma and have a large hematoma. However, a blood clot is a possibility as well. Any calf pain and swelling should indicate a vascular study (ultrasound) of your leg to be sure that you don't have a blood clot, which can be fatal. I would advise that you see a physician and have this tested immediately. If you have pain, increased swelling, any shortness of breath or chest pain then you would have to be seen as an emergency. ...Read more
