Nerve pinching: The location of your problem is in the distribution of the ulnar nerve, and there may be compression at the elbow, wrist, or even higher in the chest or shoulder. This can be readily evaluated on physical exam, and can be further studied, if necessary by an EMG test. ...Read more

Hi I was a little worried about this numb feeling in my left hand on the side of pinky finger going down that side but it is only my left hand?

Ulnar neuropathy?: The symptoms you describe are typical for trouble with the ulnar nerve. This is the nerve that travels along the inner elbow and causes the 'funny bone' sensation when the elbow is hit in a certain way. Sometimes the nerve can get pinched in the elbow and surgery can relieve the pressure. An EMG/NCS test can determine if this is what is going on. Good luck! ...Read more

My arms, mainly left one seems to go numb only when I'm lying my back. What could cause this? Numbness is from shoulder blade to pinky and ring finger

Varies : The most common cause would probably be a pinched nerve in your neck. Other potential causes could potentially include thoracic outlet syndrome or one of multiple peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome. I would not hesitate to be seen and a good exam could go a long way in determining the cause. ...Read more

This needs attention: These symptoms could indicate a number of neurological issues. The numbness could be due to nerve compression in the elbows or the neck. However, the dizziness would not be typical of a local nerve compression. This could be an atypical migraine or it could be sign of a worse problem, such as multiple sclerosis. If it lasts more than a few minutes, see a doctor. ...Read more

I finished breastfeeding 4 months ago. Now, I have a pain under my left armpit/breast area and my left arm from my elbow to pinky finger keeps going numb. What should I do?

Nerve pressure: The effects from breast feeding should have cleared by now. While pain in the breast is not an ominous sign it is still worth checking out. The numbness in the left arm is probably not related as that sounds like pressure on the "funny bone" nerve but that should also be investigated further. ...Read more
