Why Does My Nose Stop Up When Lying Down
Today, laying down on right side with head on the pillow. I hear a ticking/popping noise inside ear/head. It stops and few min later comes back.
Anxious!: Your ears can hear all sorts of sounds when they are compressed. So try to shift the angle at which you are laying down and I expect the sounds will go away. Sometimes it is the beat of your heart which can be causing these popping sounds. Try to ignore, relax as it is nothing serious. Hope you caan sleep better now. ...Read more
Normal nasal cycle: Your nose is meant to filter the air you breathe. The normal nasal cycle describes an alternating congestion of each side of the nose every 90 minutes. The congestion comes from the dilation of blood vessels in the turbinates and septum. If you feel stuffy, there may be an additional blockage like a deviated septum, allergies, enlarged turbinates. Find a local ENT to evaluate your nose and airway. ...Read more
I've had this revolting smell in my nose since the day before yesterday. Almost like vinegar and sulfur. I only smell it when I'm lying down though.
Sinus Infection: It could be a sign of sinus infection - You can use neosporin in nostrils twice a day with a drop of Oil of Oregano (oregano will be spicy) this will help cut down bacterial or other microbial load. You can come see me for a Zyto consult to figure out what else your body will respond to. Use saline nasal spray this will thin the secretions. Orally take N-Acetyl cysteine 1000mg twice daily x 14d ...Read more

I was briefly exposed to concrete dust two weeks ago. Now I have a bloody discharge from my nose and sometime have trouble breathing when lying down.
Pulmonary or Cardiac: Your symptoms may be related to the dust exposure but may more likely signal a more serious problem related to your lungs and possibly your heart. Any high blood pressure or leg swelling or palpitations.? You should be checked by a cardiologist or pulmonologist as your symptoms may indicate a serious long term problem. Any cough or wheezing? The dust issue may just be a clue to a bigger concern. ...Read more

Pressure pain bridge of nose, nasal congestion only occurs when lying down, completely relieved once standing up. It completely goes. No fever. What?!
Nasal congestion: You may have sinus congestion in one of the lesser known sinuses - either the ethmoid or frontal that flares when you are supine. You may benefit from a trial of nasal decongestant - I like pseudoephedrine either 30 or 60 mg every 6-8 hours. If this doesn't help a sinus CT scan may be helpful. Good luck ...Read more

Face tingling around eyes and nose accompanied by neck pain. Pain is worse when lying down. Ct and MRI of head came back fine. What could be causing it?
Cervicl radiculopath: It is possible that you have cervical radiculopathy but the CT or MRI should have seen that. Usually however this does not manifest with face tingling around the eyes and nose. Bells palsy is also a possibility as this would not show up on an MRI or CT scan. I'm curious to know if you saw a neurologist as this would be a good specialist to see. ...Read more

I recently down with the cold on Thursday and like all colds, you get a runny nose, but my nose just doesn't stop running?
The current viral syndrome seems to be affecting everyone that way. It lasts a few days longer as well. I reccomend taking the OTC meds for runny nose that such as claritin (loratadine). They will need to be taken every 12 hours rather than every 24 until you get better.
PS just finished the same. Took twice daily for 3 days then once daily for 2 more. Great now. Good luck ...Read more

Ok so I was laying down and my ear felt like it got blocked and when I was blowing my nose I could here a bell in that ear what could cause this?
I sneeze the stuff from my nose I swallow and then it goes down and stop and then it goes all the way down and then my nose dry and then I can't brea?
I took a Claritin (loratadine) and klonopin before laying down in bed and my nose just started bleeding. Is that normal or should I be worried. 1st time in a while?
Drying effect?: Claritin (loratadine) may have some drying effect on the mucous membrane and thus this may lead to a nosebleed especially when the environment is dry or breezy. On the other, this may just be a coincidence. Suggest you try Allegra to see if this too would cause a nosebleed. If the problem persists, consult your doctor since sometimes just a simple cauterization may top the bleed forever. ...Read more

Head& ears feel stuff with cotton. Some pain in ears on& off. Stuffy nose. All worse when upright. Some pain in chest when laying down. What wrong?
My 9 yr old daughter has constant nose bleeds, but only out of her right nostril. It's happens 2x a week & she's only laying down when it happens.
Nasal allergy: Frequent nose bleeding is often associated with a benign condition, e.g., swollen inner lining due to nasal allergy. It would be prudent to seek medical attention if the child experiences prolonged bleeding, easy bruising, or pallor (pale looking). Beside allergy medicine, running humidifier and application of vaseline inside nostrils before sleep should be of help. ...Read more

Family practice: You should let your dr know what is goin on. But there are a few things you could try until you are seen. Dryness can cause it. So use neosporin on a q tip and gently rub the inside of both nostrils. Repeat this several times during the day. Afrin (oxymetazoline) spray could be used for a few days. This helps to constrict blood vessels. ...Read more
