Why Does My Nose Run When I Eat
Vasomotor Rhinitis: Your symptoms are consistent with a condition known as vasomotor rhinitis. This is not related to infection or allergies. Generally, this is easily treated with a prescription nasal spray spray called atrovent (ipratroprium bromide). See your primary doctor or ENT for full evaluation. ...Read more
Neural response: This phenomenon is usually not allergy. It is most commonly the result of a central triggering of the vagus nerve. This nerve innervates both the blood vessels and the mucus glands of the nasal mucosa. It is possible that an anti-cholinergic nasal spray might control the rhinnorhea (runny nose). It is a perfectly benign condition. ...Read more
Vasomotor Rhinitis: Vasomotor rhinitis can cause clear runny nose with eating and drinking. It seems to be worse with hot temperature, spicy foods, or anything which will increase blood vessel dilation. As we get older we lose some of our vessel constriction ability which is more pronounced during normal states of parasympathetic tone. CSF leak and other causes need to be ruled out. ...Read more
Don't worry: Fact is as we get older the sense of smell and taste diminish a bit, however, the lining inside your nose is still very sensitive to many things. I can't answ ep why it happens at the times it does but I would guess that your nose is reacting to your food and mucus cells are activated and causing your nose to run. The very best person to ask is an ENT doctor. ...Read more

Reflux: Babies must breathe through their nose. If I had to bet the baby is having silent acid reflux that is burning her nose. Using 1-2 drops of nonmedicated nasal saline drops for babies after each feeding can help. Are you breastfeeding? Try going on a dairy free diet yourself. On formula? Ask your doctor about switching to soy or elemental formula. For any infant breathing issues call your md. ...Read more

Compare vacuum cleaners: a vacuum cleaner that blows air out the top usually will not blow all the nearby dust into the air, but vacuum cleaners that blow air out the sides or the back of the machine will blow lots of nearby floor dust into the air. ...Read more
