Healthy otherwise ?: Newborns make a number of interesting sounds with their small rubbery airways. Is it nut ok for me to have a kellogg's protein shake in the am everyday because i'm nursing my newborn? Could this upset his tummy n make him be making grunting noises even though bowls r fine?
Normal baby noises: This shake should be fine.If you want to try some alternative components to mix or add to the shake that is fine also. Babies have no social conscience and make all kinds of noises to suit themselves.Don't over read their significance.Your body sorts out what should go into the milk. If baby is thriving, ignore the noises. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Newborn strains to poo but not constipated, normal poo.To a point where he starts crying. Also grunts alot at night bedtime. Is this normal?Thank you
Normal: Newborns can make a lot of funny noises, including grunting, especially with gas. Having a BM can be a lot of work for a little one-- weak abdominal muscles, lying flat...so you can help him--put him in a sitting position (gravity), pull his legs up (imagine yourself trying to poo lying flat with very weak abs!) Rub his tummy, and a warm bath might help. If not better, see your pediatrician! ...Read more
Is it normal for a new born to grunt and gasp after a feeding or while sleeping ? What other noises are normal ? And what isnt ?
Transitional stage: Swaddeling allows a newborn to regain the known comfort of the womb. This avoids the scary & new wiggling their arms & legs do if they are open(they don't understand it).Helpful as this may be early on, gradual reduction of the constraint is a necessary step.Acquisition of motor skills requires regular motor activity.By 1mo baby should be in a onzie on their back in bed. No pillows or blanket. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Sandpaper: A grandmother showed me once how easy it was to take off the snags on baby fingernails using a 1 by 2 inch piece of sandpaper. Simply face the rough side to the nail & pass it across with minimal pressure & the snag is gone in seconds. Two hands can be done in a minute. Emery boards take off too much skin and nail nippers can take off fingertips-yuck.I keep 120 grade wet/dry paper at the office. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
