Why does my leg have shakes or muscle spasms since I fractured that pelvis?

Why does my leg have shakes or muscle spasms since I fractured that pelvis?

Lack of use/injury: Either disuse atrophy with fasciculations or nerve compression/injury are most likely responsible. Ask your physician. Swelling of injured nerves may resolve with decreased spasms. Physcial therapy with building up of "lost" muscle may also help. ...Read more

Muscle spasms legs, feet and side back come and go, mild but noticeable. Had for 1 month. Is it MS, ALS will I get paralysed?

No: Someone has been reading too many medical horror stories. It is mega highly unlikely that spasms in an otherwise healthy 20 year old represent anything but overuse or electrolyte disturbance. The diseases you mention generally do not begin like that. See your family doc for an evaluation and reassurance of the correct diagnosis, so you can get this problem resolved. ...Read more

Could I have multiple sclerosis even if my MRI was normal? I have a lot of the symptoms (muscle spasm, weakness, tingling down my back and legs), but my MRI didn’t show anything. Can an MRI miss ms?

Typically not: Mri is the most sensitive test available to aid in the diagnosis of ms. While there are rare cases of MRI negative ms, the vast, vast, vast majority of patients with ms have MRI abnormalities. Having said that, given your symptoms it would be important to know if the cervical and thoracic spinal cord were imaged. If brain and spinal cord imaging negative then not likely to be ms. ...Read more

Numb/tingling in hands, legs, and feet on both sides. Muscle spasms in legs, back and arms. Loss of balance, dizzy, stiff. Is it Neuropathy or ms?

Bad choices: You probably don't need or want to pick A or B. Both require a doctor's DX and TX and it might be another thing altogether. A common cause of neuropathy is a diabetic condition w/ other signs too - are you a diabetic? Get into care if 'yes'! MS usually starts a bit later in age. Have an exam to find an answer. Hip/ butt muscle spasms on left side like charlie horse. Recent MS dx. Possible symptom? Very painful lasted 2 days already. Suggestions?

SOME THOTS: Pain is very common in ms, and can present numerous ways, and even migraine is present in ms pts at a frequency of 2-4 times normals. However, your muscle spasms could represent a separate process in hip, back, pelvis. (unlikely, but if you were given steroids, check for avascular necrosis in hip). Lastly, do not want to second guess your doc, but there are oral meds now (no needles). ...Read more

Can tight, spasming hip, butt, low back muscles on one side cause leg to hurt? Had steroid shot in butt gave a little relief but still feels crampy

Spasm: Absolutely, spasm can reduce blood flow and cause pain/aching in the leg. Not sure why you had the steroid IM shot though. Consider getting your low back looked at by a chiropractor or a DO who knows how to manipulate. Odds are you have a structural issue somewhere below L2. Soak in a hot bath then do some gentle stretching exercises. ...Read more

I have constant hip pain and muscle spasms in my thigh and calf with numbness in the outer half of my foot. What other tests besides MRI should happen?

Nerve damage: What your experiencing is nerve damage. It will or may be permanent if the cause is not corrected. Nerve conduction velocity is needed to help determine this. I would get the MRI asap. Then have your physician refer you to a neurosurgeon and neurologist to get further evaluation. A normal MRI and abnormal nerve study may indicate a more severe condition in terms of a demyelinating process. ...Read more

Muscle spasm in left groin/thigh while sitting. Am I compressing a nerve? Where is the said nerve?

Muscle spasm in left groin/thigh while sitting. Am I compressing a nerve? Where is the said nerve?

Yes: It sees like with sitting you are causing compression in the area of the abductors and maybe the gluteus muscles. It depends on your weight and what type of exercise you do, . Running, elliptical machines and stair climbing can cause tightness in the quadriceps and hamstring muscles. With a unilateral spasm, it could be the way you sit at your desk or drive your car. May need an evaluation. ...Read more

A stress: Fracture is an injury to the bone caused by repetitive microtrauma (for example, in the tibia from running). After deconditioning from fall/pelvic fracture, can control of leg on that side be lost (shaky, sways when trying to stand)? Can standing hurt knee?

Yes, not likely: Your quadriceps muscles atrophy very quickly. Within the first three weeks of inactivity, they become very weak and it is difficult to stand comfortably, let alone walk. Unless there was further leg injury, I would not expect you to hurt your knee. It is more likely that you are experiencing referred pain from the pelvis injury. Seek help from a physical therapist in getting your strength back. ...Read more

After a bad tibial plateau fracture and other issues, my leg hasn't bent past 90 in 2yrs. Can I regain ROM past 90 or are muscles shortened for good?

After a bad tibial plateau fracture and other issues, my leg hasn't bent past 90 in 2yrs. Can I regain ROM past 90 or are muscles shortened for good?

Not muscles: Complicated tibial plateau fractures that extend into the joint and are 'depressed ' >1 cm. And involve both 'sides' of the joint even w/ excellent surgery/ plating / bone grafting portend a poorer prognosis. Xrays would be very helpful. However, loss of ROM is secondary to capsular 'contraction' because of immobilization, or inadequate initial joint reduction, etc... Muscle weakness/atrophy is2nd ...Read more

Fracture (Definition)

A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

Muscle (Definition)
