How is possible to have different heart rate in both arms? What's the reasons? Left arm 78 bpm, right arm 85 bpm, measurements at the same time.

How is possible to have different heart rate in both arms? What's the reasons? Left arm 78 bpm, right arm 85 bpm, measurements at the same time.

Impossible: You can only have one heart rate. A palpated pulse in an extremity is reflective of the heart rate, but not exactly the same thing. If there is obstruction to the blood flow in one of your arms, the pulse may be weaker in one arm than the other, but the pulse rate will still be the same. If the measured pulse was different in two extremities at the same time there was a measurement error. ...Read more

No: Your heart rate varies and can go up or down in seconds, your pulse is the same in both arms if measured at the same time, what can vary is the blood pressure between the arm, a small variation is considered normal. ...Read more

A few years ago went to emerg with resp of 40 heart rate 90 and carpopedal spasm, my hands were clawed inward and couldn't move arms. Stroke? Mi?

Not necessarily...: Carpopedal spasm could have happened as a result of acute loss of co2, when you were hyperventilating for some reason; especially if your muscles were sensitized (genetically, or chemically/pharmacologically)
a reversible "mini stroke" is a possible diagnosis, but it has to be supported by other findings. Heart rate of 90 is not diagnostic at all.
Absolutely not enough evidence to label it an mi. ...Read more

My bf has been feeling dizzy, nauseous, faint, & \arms get cold & tingly for 2 wks. He went to the ER & had blood drawn& was ok. His heart rate is 44?

Maybe a sign of....: The slow heart rate could be a sign and not the etiology. Pts with vasodepressor syndrome or nuerocardiogenic syncope can present like this. A stress echo, a holter, and a tilt table test along with labs including thyroid panel should be done. A complete h&p should be done of course and a list of all meds including natural supplements. ...Read more

Epinephrine: You are experiencing an "adrenaline rush", although these symptoms might not be directly chemical. They could be due to heart arrhythmias, such a supraventricular tachycardia. First get your thyroid checked. If ok, see a cardiologist and perhaps you may need an endocrinologist (gland specialist) if nothing else pans out. ...Read more

Possible naproxen allergy? Increased bp, heart rate, intense red itch tops of feet, arms, torso. Went to dr, ekg&bp normal by arrival. Didn't link Aleve use until today, used in frequently in past.

Quite possibly: The reaction you describe certainly sounds like an allergic reaction to something you ingested, possibly the aleve (naproxen). Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids) are fairly allergenic, and you develop an allergy to something at any point. So if the timeline to your symptoms fits with aleve (naproxen) ingestion, I would be highly suspicious. Try Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for acute relief of current symptoms. ...Read more

ED Tx Team: Your best bet is teaming up with professionals who treat eating disorders. In an ideal world that would include a primary care doctor, psychiatrist, nutritionist and psychologist. If benadryl (diphenhydramine) caused palpitations and raised heart rate should I be concerned?

If benadryl (diphenhydramine) caused palpitations and raised heart rate should I be concerned?

Med Side Effect: Everyone reacts differently to certain medications. The most common side effect of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is usually sedation but some people find it causes a paradoxical effect. The symptoms you describe do not sound like an allergist reaction. If you require an antihistamine try a non-seading antihistamine like Zyrtec, Allegra, or Claritin and see if you tolerated these better. ...Read more

Please: Please call 911. Although this is an atypical presentation - chest pain, marked variations in your heart rhythm and numbness could be an arythmia / heart attack. Symptoms of a heart attack can include: chest pain; chest tightness or squeezing; shortness of breath, increased sweating pain or numbness radiating down the arm (more often left than right) and nausea. Some people dismiss the pain thinking it is indigestion. There can be pain in the top midline of the abdomen, as well as vomiting. Pain may not present in the chest but instead can be felt in the upper back, head, jaw or in the teeth. There may be a generalized feeling of unwellness and fatigue. One fourth of people have heart attacks without chest pain. Please call 911. You need to evaluated asap. Take care. ...Read more

I'm about to have evlt for venous insuffic. Why is exercise post proc forbidden? Is it the impact, the muscle tension, or the raised heart rate?

It is not forbidden: Exercise, within reason, is OK & actually encouraged after EVLT as it can help reduce the incidence of blood clots & help with recovery. Usually it is recommended to avoid excessive exercise such as heavy weight lifting or extreme exercise such as prolonged running, as there is some theoretic risk of these activities increasing the possibility that the treated vein does not respond appropriately ...Read more

You need an EKG: There are various causes of rapid heart rate. The first step it to determine the type of rhythm your heart is in that is causing it to beat so fast. A 24 hour recording of your heart rhythm would be a good starting place. Treatment is based on an accurate diagnosis.. ...Read more
