Why Does My Cough Get Worse At Night Or First In The Morning
Position?: If your cough worsens when you lie down, either at night or in the morning, it may be due to post-nasal drip or gerd. Both of these can cause bronchospasm and lead to cough. The treatments for these are different so see your doctor so treatment can be initiated if either or both of these proves to be the culprit.See 2 more doctor answers
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Chronic chest pain: May be reflux. Would elevate head of bed when sleeping and try 1 month of prevecid 30 qd (OTC) and 150 mg of ranitidine OTC see if that helps. You are on plaqunil so likely have autoimmune disease so consider clot and recurrent pericarditis, as well (less likely) but call you doctor in AM, may be flareSee 1 more doctor answer
Asthma vs. Rad my son has cough variant asthma, he never wheezes during an attack, just coughs violently and uncontrolably. He recently has had this cough for the past week that he just can't shake. It get really bad in the first thing in mornings and at
Kids: Kids do not have to wheeze to have asthma, as you have indicated that your son has cough variant asthma. The Flovent and ventolin are appropriate management from your physician. I am not sure what the urgent care physician was treating with the amoxicillin. Antibiotics are not used to treat wheezing or cough variant asthma or rad (simply meaning the airways react/narrow to stimulus such as infections, exercise, or allergies). Was the physician concerned about a bacterial infection? In that case the antibiotic would be appropriate.See 1 more doctor answer

No cause for alarm: 18 year old male asks, "I sometimes get a light cough but its only at night usually and I'm usually fine when I wake up next morning. What is this? Take Honey: Get Netflix. Watch a funny movie, rest, relax. Take honey - about one tsp 3x a day for the cough. Drink green tea with lemon and honey - at least six glasses / day. Green mucus suggest thick stale drainage, possible bacteria. Humming helps move the mucus. If persists, ask doctor about using Hydro Pulse Nasal/Sinus irrigator to remove stale phlegm and restore good cilia movement

Increased vagal tone: That's rather physiological, parasympathetic part of the nervous system tends to have increased activity at night, the vagus nerve, one of the most complex cranial nerves, is part of that system, it innervates several systems, hence the increased symptoms at night, also the fever is controlled centrally in the brain. Why does my asthma get worse at night my throaht feels clogged with mucus and the cough is very deep?
Nocturnal Asthma: There is a natural tendency for airway swelling and constriction to increase at night, due to the normal nighttime fall in hormones that suppress inflammation, the so-called diurnal rhythm. There is also a greater tendency for secretions to pool in the larger airways when you are lying down and breathing is more shallow. Adjusting asthma meds in the evening and adding expectorants may help.See 1 more doctor answer
