Normal it is not!!:
I am sure you must injured the shin, when you fell or whichever way you injured your calf. Our brains register only the worst injured (or more painful) part first, while the lesser injured part still hurts or becomes obvious later.
Your examining Doc can certainly reassure you that you most likely injured the shin as well. Check with him/her.
