Shin splints likely: Make sure you are wearing a reasonable running shoe that fits well. A sudden increase in distance and/or running intensity can harken shin splints which is really just an overuse injury. The treatment is to decrease your intensity/distance akin to a dimmer switch to just below the threshold where symptoms develop. ?shin splints: If the discomfort is not in the knees but in the lower legs below the knee, these may be shin splints due to overuse and muscle irritation especially brought on by running. Try reducing your running, ice the legs and , if you can take them, nsaids like Ibuprofen or Naproxen may help.
