No pain, no problem: Cracking of your joints including the neck/back has not been shown to have any ill effect as long as in doing so it is not causing you any pain. Lifting weight basically pulls on the muscles of your neck and that can cause cracking--quite common. Aleve/ibuprofen for: the pain might be helpful. Rest, Ice pack 3 x a day for 20 minutes, and gentle stretching exercises, with Muscle relaxers would be helpful. Check with your PCP but importantly rest your back and avoid lifting weights or any other excessive activities, which can make it worse for you. I'm 30 yo. 250lb. Muscular. Always sore btwn shoulder blades. If someone press and crack my back, I feel better. Should I stop lifting weights? Swim?
Hard to say: Unfortunately without a physical examination, it's almost impossible to say. Conservatively, I'd suggest taking it easy with the weights; you might benefit from Aleve, the Tiger Balm patch and a TENS unit (they're over the counter now) to see if it improves over a week or 2.
