It's normal: Around 9 months old many kids start refusing being spoon-fed. They are growing up! the goal at this phase is to start teaching healthy finger foods. You might be able to still get in some of the earlier foods as dips, spreads, or sauces on the finger foods. Or by giving your baby a spoon to hold and alternating bites with a spoon you hold. ...Read more

Not enough to count: A 9 month-old baby still gets most of his nutrition from breastmilk or formula. The baby foods and mashed up adult foods supply some extra calories, some of which is protein, but it's not worth counting the grams. The baby should try different flavors for fun, but he doesn't need to think of solid foods as a very important part of his diet until after his first birthday. ...Read more
He decides: Babies are good about knowing how much their tummies can hold. You need to tune into his cues as to when he is full: turns head away from spoon, spits the food out, refuses to open his mouth, etc. As long as he is sitting there wiling to eat, you can offer the food to him. As he eats more solids he will correspondingly drink less milk, generally maintaining the same number of calories in a day. ...Read more
My 9 month old stopped eating solids over a 2 weeks because of teething. She exclusively on Formula/breastmilk. How long will this last? Please help.
My 9 month old is breasted still and eats solid food. He tried 60 mls of formula 3 nights ago and now has fluffy smelly yellow poos 10 x day. Help?
Formula and diarrhea: Formulas are either soy based or milk based and your baby may be allergic to the basic underlying protein of the formula. Would stop that formula and see if resolves, May also be coincidental virus/ infection but if no fever that is less likely. Call the pediatrician today. Keep the baby hydrated with breast milk, water. ...Read more
My 9 month old baby girl is breastfed but not feeding well on solids. Any tips on best solid food that can be given to her and the quantity required?
Real foods: Some babies at this age are just not interested in purees; try very small pieces of soft, whole foods (banana, avocado, other fruits and veggies) to see if she's more interested in those. There's no quantity "required" at all - if the issue continues, consider having her checked for oral texture defensiveness by a speech/feeding specialist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is it ok to give a 9 month old baby cows milk instead of formula and also pent invite vitamins a day he has 3 solid meals with veggies and meat fruit?
Cows milk ;babies: Babies are not able to tolerate regular cow's milk under age 12 months. That is the reason we give them formula as it is formulated for baby's intestinal enzymes. Some moms do however feed it to 9 month old babies but i would advise against it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

9-month-old granddaughter has always been at 50th percentile for ht & wt but, at 9-mo check-up, fell to 5th for ht & wt. How common is this?
Not uncommon: At this age, children are changing from milk to foods as their main source of nutrition. In that process, they may not eat as many calories as they were for a while. Just keep offering healthy meals and snacks (if needed). Recheck her weight and height at the 12 month well check, and see if she is catching back up again. If not, discuss with her doctor. ...Read more
Dear Dr my baby is 9 months old eating solid foods still nursing him can i pump out milk and give him.Baby date of birth is 24th feb 2014?
Yes: Pumped breast milk will be fine. It is not quite as convenient but has the same nutrition. Pumping is not as good as sucking at stimulating breast milk. He may not want to take it from a bottle but maybe a cup if he is used to your nipple. All the best and congratulations on wanting to continue breast feeding! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My son is 9 months old. I used to give him 3 meals per day. But since few days he has stopped taking any solid and wants only breast feed. Wgt 8.5 kg?
Reply: If he is otherwise not sick, then most likely teething could be the reason when gums are swollen and eating solids causes discomfort. Give him puree foods for the time being, use teethers and keep them clean, tylenol (acetaminophen) as needed but if necessary. Keep an eye on any other symptoms causing this issue. ...Read more
My 7 1/2 month old girl refuses solid food. She doesn't eat veggie or cereal but love jar of fruit. Is it okay she eats only fruit during the day?
Reply: When it comes to taste of the food babies love sweet taste and get hooked on to the fruit sauces easily as compared to the bland/ salty flavor of veggies and cereal. Try to keep giving veggies and cereal too for variety. At this age infant should eat three meals a day besides formula feeds. Introduce one new food every week. ...Read more

My 8 month old refuses to eat solid food, only accepts breastmilk(I give expressed bm of 1000ml a day- 5to6feeds every 3hours)could this be the reason?
Decrease breast milk: Try feeding your child food first and then offer breast milk after the meal, If you fill his belly first with breast milk, he may not be hungry enough to try the solid food. If the problem persists, he may have an oral aversion to food that may need evaluation. Try first to give 4-5 small feedings of breast milk after giving solids first. Try cereals mixed with breast milk first then fruit/veg ...Read more
