Why Does Hydrochlorothiazide Elevate Cholesterol Levels
My blood pressure has been elevated in the morning for the past two weeks ranging from 184/102-- 96/60... I take benicar20 and Hydrochlorothiazide 25?
Too high: You need to contact your doctor. This much variability isn't normal and you may need further testing to exclude secondary causes of hypertension including adrenal or kidney problems. Blood pressure rises a few hours before you wake up in the morning and peaks in the middle of the afternoon. Benicar (olmesartan) and HCTZ work well together, but further refinements or testing is needed. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) may raise glucose levels. Never had this borderline problem before til taking this hypertensive med. What diuretic substitute should I ask for?
HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) and glucose: I would have your physician check your hemoglobin a1c to see if you have any diabetes while taking. Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) (h). Another option is a diuretic called chlorthiadone (c), which does not raise glucose (g) levels. At age 59, you may have some chronic kidney disease (ckd) which would make both h and c ineffective. Ask your doctor if you have CKD and could be put on Furosemide alone, as it does not raise g. ...Read more

I'm 51 and take hydrochlorothiazide. My creatinine level is 1.4 and my bun is 20. My bun/creat ratio is 14. Should I be concerned about kidney disease?
Observation: Your bun/creatinine ratio is minimally elevated. The hydrochlorothiazide itself makes you urinate more, this can lead to slight dehydration and the results in the ratio above, make sure you are adequately hydrated and the ratio doesn't increase by rechecking every 3-6 months until it is normal. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Should lisonpril hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) be discontinued if I have had diarrhea since I started taking it 7 days ago. Blood test shows dehydration and elevated co2.
Diarrhea and meds: If you had diarrhea (d), your co2 would be low due to loss of alakli in your stool. Neither lisinopril/ hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) (l) are known to cause diarrhea. If you had d for 7 days, you need to contact your physician (p) or go to the er. I would stop your l, as your blood pressure would be low due to fluid loss seen with d. Is your potassium low? What fluids are you ingesting? Call your p or go to an er for help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) by its mechanism rids the body of sodium and water and reduces blood pressure in the process.
