Why Does Going Vegan Cause Heartburn
Well. It may cause..:
For example: heartburn can be perceived as a possible heart attack and thus can cause the person to be nervous/anxious/scared, but this just means it can trigger those symptoms, not causing the anxiety disorder itself. Having underlying anxiety disorder and having certain illnesses can make the anxiety worse over time. If severe/persistent, you can develop anxiety/depressive disorder.

A relative is vegan (2 years) and has had horrible GERD for the past 10 years. What sort of diet can he follow? What foods are good for him?
Diet helps but...: Gerd is a complex problem. Yes, a proper diet can help but will not cure; the underlying causes are usually related to a deficiency (not excess!) of hydrochloric acid and imbalance of intestinal flora. A diet low in simple/processed carbohydrates will help but the primary role of that diet is to improve the balance of flora. See http://bit. That the differential diagnosis of heartburn symptoms is quite broad, but according to Dr. Harmon and others in Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology, there are five major causes:
Medications, functional dyspepsia, GERD, peptic ulcer disease, and cancer.
GERD may have no symptoms of heartburn whatsoever. Here is a review to read: http://tinyurl. Com/nqnv9qr ...Read more
I had acid reflux/heartburn for a few days in a row. Today I feel nauseated, had diarrhea, and feel sick. Does GERD cause gastritis or what's going on?
No: It should not.Get a more detailed answer ›
I am experiencing acid reflux and heartburn (gerd). I tend to get this a lot after swallowing a pill. What could cause this?
GERD: Gerd (movement of stomach contents into esophagus) can result from: 1) inappropriate relaxation of lower esophageal sphincter, gastroparesis (sluggish stomach emptying, partial gastric outlet obstruction), ineffective esophageal peristalsis, inadequate salivary production. Limit consumption of: caffeine & fizzy drinks, dietary fats, tomato products, chocolate, tobacco, alcohol, bedtime snacks. ...Read more
How does GERD cause Dysphagia if my esophagus is normal with no scarring or narrowing? I have no heartburn or any other GERD symptoms?
I've read gerd/heartburn is often caused by low stomach acid and not too much. Is this true or more of a holistic/natural type point of view?
Not true: GERD is caused by contents in the stomach coming up through the esophagus, which in turn has a poorly understood cause. We think it is probably due to too many random openings of the valve. Certain medications can also cause the valve to open, as can stress, obesity, & problems with the stomach emptying to name a few. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Timing: How are you taking the omeprazole? It should be taken on an empty stomach with nothing to eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after. If you aren't taking it this way that can reduce to the effectiveness. Otherwise, you may need to see your doctor or a gastroenterologist. ...Read more
Can a small sliding hiatal hernia cause shortness of breath. I have no GERD or any sort of heartburn. Thanks.?
Hiatal hernia: other than GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)/heartburn, what other effects might it cause? Is it dangerous if left untreated?
Depends: Large hiatal hernias (or paraesophageal) hernias can cause chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and severe anemia from chronic bleeding. Only rarely do they cause life threatening problems such as gangrene. They are however frequently misunderstood as the cause of symptoms, so if a large hiatal or paraesophageal hernia is the diagnosis, see a general or thoracic surgeon with experience in lap repair. ...Read more

Can Plavix cause persistent heartburn in a person with stroke, heart atrack and GERD treated with Protonix (pantoprazole)?
Is whitish phlegm being regurgitated consistent with GERD? (No heartburn) Can Pantoprazole become completely ineffective? Can regurgitation cause dried plugged nose in morning?
? GERD???: Have several? 's. With Gerd you're having stomach contents come back up your esophagus to your throat. It could look a little phlegm to you occasionally but most of the time I would think phlegm would come from chest. Pantoprozole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor. It tells the parietal cells in the stomach stop producing acid. Should not give you dry nose in AM. ...Read more
Can GERD cause moderate nausea from not eating and several hours after eating cause stomach/intestinal spasms and pain (without any sxs of heartburn)?
Possibly IBS: You possibly have a condition called irritable bowel syndrome, but I can't be sure since I do not know how long have you had this. Irritable bowel is a very common illness and occurs more often in female. Gerd typically causes "heartburn" symptoms and you should get some relief with pepcid/tums/prilosec etc. If these are new symptoms and treatment above don't help, consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more
I have gastritis. I often experience stomach burning and heartburn. Yesterday I feel something stuck in my throat and chest. Can h.pylori cause GERD?
Does anxiety cause gerd? I don't understand how else I could have developed this. If I fix the anxiety will the GERD go away?
No, but: Generally speaking, anxiety does not cause gerd, but anxiety can cause gastrointestinal symptoms that mimic gerd. To the extent that a person's gerd-like symptoms are not truly due to gerd, but due to anxiety, they are likely to improve with treatment of anxiety. Nevertheless, it's not wise - without having a physician's eval - to assume that any physical symptom is due to a psychological cause. ...Read more
Can slouched posture, forward head posture, and sitting at a computer all day for years cause gerd? If I fix my posture will the GERD symptoms go away
Yes: Gerd or gastroesophageal reflux disease can be thought of as a really bad case of heartburn that just won't quit. If your reflux gets worse when you lay down, then that discomfort can make it very difficult to get to sleep, eg cause insomnia. There are many medications, some over-the-counter, to treat gerd. Better yet, alter your lifestyle to minimize risk. Or change your sleeping position. ...Read more
Common, aggravates: Agree with other answers. Just another reason to get weight down, if overweight. Easier said than done. ...Read more
Chronic Inflammation: GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease leads to alkaline reflux that changes the barrier lining of the esophagus (the tube just before your stomach). Inflammation leads to changes called "Barrett's esophagus" - with time, this is thought to predispose risk of esophageal cancer by creating altered, abnormal, premalignant cells. ...Read more
