Pain in "your veins at night" is not real classic for it either. Consider seeing a hand specialist to discuss likely cause. Be cautious of jumping into getting a nerve test as there can be many incidental false positives. ...Read more

I have carpal tunnel in both of my wrists, lately my hands have been going numb quicker then usual. My left thumb hurts after it's numb. Why?

Pain in thumb C6: There's an entity called a C6 radiculopathy which may explain the isolated pain to that digit as well as numbness. Also, something called TENOSYNOVITIS could explain the thumb. I had surgery 4 weeks ago for carpal tunnel, day after surgery Hives appear every night, take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) in the morning and they go away?

Likely coincidental: The only thing I can think of would be a reaction to an ingredient in a long-acting cortisone if it was indeed injected along with the procedure. Even then, 4 weeks would is too long for that to continue. Are you taking any NSAIDs for post-op pain? If so, that may be the problem. Otherwise there is no relationship between the two events. Sharp pain on left thumb & wrist & spread to forearm which makes it feel very heavy and numb occur most night. Is it carpal tunnel or nerve compression?

Could be CTS: It sounds like it could be carpal tunnel syndrome (cts)which is a type of nerve compression, but this will often affect other fingers rather than just the thumb. Is it on the lateral or outside of the thumb? It could be a tenosynovitis as well. If you look up a test called a finklestein test, you can check yourself and see if its that. If you have neck pain, it could also be a radiculitis. ...Read more

I have been diagnosed with carpal tunnel. The thumb and first two fingers on my right hand are going numb during the night. When I wake up and the blood starts flowing back I have excruciating pain. Can't this cause damage to my hand?

Yes.: Yes. Carpal tunnel syndrome is structural. A normal tunnel that tendons and nerves pass through to the hand is tighter or looser in individuals based on genetics--just like loose or tight joints. Those of us with tight tunnels gradually develop carpal tunnel syndrome. The end result is permanent nerve damage (weakness, atrophy, numbness). It's nothing you are doing that is causing this. You are just starting to notice that you have the disease. It is a very slowly progressive disease and you might be able to manage the symptoms with wrist splints at night for years. When you start getting numb in spite of the splints or when the numbness lingers for more than 5-10 minutes, then it's time to have surgery. ...Read more
