Can calcium orotate cause diareha? I thought it was supposed to cause constipation?

Calcium orotate: This medication is not know to routinely cause diarrhea. Rather, it is more likely to cause constipation and stomach upset. However, every person is different and responds differently to medication. Thus, diarrhea may either be unrelated to the calcium, or just an abnormal side effect.

Would 1200 mg Calcium/day cause constipation? Would Duloxetine 30 mg cause constipation?

Would 1200 mg Calcium/day cause constipation? Would Duloxetine 30 mg cause constipation?

Yes: Constipation is a common side effect of calcium supplementation, so decrease or temporarily stop the calcium to see if the problem clears up. Duoloxetine can cause gastrointestinal side effects, but you should not just stop it because you could get withdrawal symptoms and feel badly. Talk to your doctor about any changes in bowel habits that do not completely clear up.

Do calcium supplements cause constipation?

Do calcium supplements cause constipation?

Calcium: Calcium in the right dose should not cause constipation. How much calcium are you taking, and are you also taking vitamin D. I strongly recommend that you go to a nearby library and read about the important amount of calcium and vitamin D. Of importance you must get to know what dose is OK for calcium and vitamin D. In many places milk will include both calcium and vitamin D.

What is the best calcium to take to avoid constipation?

What is the best calcium to take to avoid constipation?

Foods: I prefer food sources of calcium as the are better absorbed and assimilated where we want them - cottage cheese, yoghurt. Too much ca supplement without vit d and vit k and you end up with concern for entering vessel walls leading to plaquing - not good. Best oral supplement if you are dairy allergic is ca citrate as best absorbed.

Calcium can: Cause constipation. Citrate is generally less of a problem than carbonate. Don't take it all with one meal, split the dose with several meals and make sure you get in sufficient fiber and water. Check w/your doctor for further info. Vitamin d dose is probably too low as most need 2000 units of d3/day. Won't cause constipation. If your osteoporosis is severe you probably need other rx as well.

Doctor recommended calcium to take to avoid constipation?

Doctor recommended calcium to take to avoid constipation?

Different types: Food sources are best: low fat dairy, tofu, dark green leafy veg, canned sardines and salmon with bones. Fortified on, soy milk etc are ok. Any ca supplement can cause constipation. Citrate less than carbonate. Taking magnesium with calcium doesn't increase absorption, but is a laxative and can counteract ca induced constipation. Drink lots of fluids, take ca in split doses.

I'm 8 weeks pregnant & my prenatals are causing constipation from the iron. Are the childrens or adult gummy vitamins ok? Some of them lack calcium etc.

I'm 8 weeks pregnant & my prenatals are causing constipation from the iron. Are the childrens or adult gummy vitamins ok? Some of them lack calcium etc.

Add fiber: Hi heather ~ the iron, as well as hormonal changes, are causing the constipation. Thus changing your vitamin is unlikely to solve your problem. Iron and Folic Acid are the most important elements of a prenatal vitamin. Try increasing your water intake, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and adding a fiber supplement (such as metamucil).

I have stomach spasms at night only when im trying to sleep. Also for 3 months I have bad gas/acid. Tums (calcium carbonate) works for a bit, docs say constipation? Why?

Check with doctor: It seems gastric or stomach related. Sometimes the mileu of the stomach gets out of whack. A liitle bacteria here a litlte hyperacidity there. A GI doctor could probably pin it down. Try it.

Can make changes: Try switching to a less constipating form of iron (e.g., ferrous bisglycinate) and try to moderate consumption of diuretic drinks like coffee/oj. Magnesium and vitamin c supplementation can also help with constipation (although mg+ can interfere with calcium absorption if you're low). For vit c, start with buffered powder, add a heaping 1/2 tsp to water/juice, & increase by 1/2 tsp/day until ok.
