Why does BV keep coming back?

Why does BV keep coming back?

Re-infection?: If bacterial vaginosis keeps returning, a woman may be getting re-infected by her partner. Both persons should consider getting examined and treated at the same time. A woman might recover better if she keeps semen out of her vagina for a while, to allow her vagina to naturally self-clean and return to normal. That means using condoms. ...Read more

What causes bv and why do it come back?

Bacterial vaginosis: ...is very common, often very frustrating. The cause(s) of bacterial overgrowth aren't known. BV is associated with sex, but doesn't appear to be an STD except in lesbians. It's also not known why BV often persists or recurs. Talk to doctor about periodic treatment to stay ahead of it. Also try consistent condom use. If female partners, try to avoid sharing vaginal fluids. Sorry no better answers. ...Read more

Is there anything i can do or take to stop it BV from coming back?

Restore balance: BV is not an infection. It is an imbalance in the bacterial flora of the vagina. The main bacteria is Lactobacillus acidophilus, like what's in yogurt. It is a probiotic, or healthy bacteria. In BV, the healthy bacteria is missing and abnormal bacteria overgrow. Can u get cultured for BV & it come back positive but it can actually be a UTI even tho u don't have the correct symptoms for a UTI?

Can u get cultured for BV & it come back positive but it can actually be a UTI even tho u don't have the correct symptoms for a UTI?

Yes: You can sometimes have a bladder infection (UTI) without symptoms you recognize. Also, many women with bacterial vaginosis don't have symptoms. The best way to know is for your doc to check your urine for an infection; look at your vaginal discharge under a microscope; and take cultures of the cervix. Usually your doc will then know what is likely to be wrong. Best wishes! ...Read more

I have been suffering with bv & yi for about 6 yrs now I have tried so many different medicines but they either don't work or the infections come back?

Chronic Vaginitis: Sounds like you need to try some changes in your diet and possibly some changes in the acidity in your vagina. I don't know what else is going on with your medical or sexual history. May I suggest you see an alternative care physician who deals more with holistic treatments. If you can find a FP or a GYN that would be the best. Try getting in touch with Randy Baker on this site. ...Read more

I recently had a culture come back positive for mycoplasma hominis and bv. Im not sure what mycoplasma hominis is, and cant really find a definite answer in researching online. Could you explain what that positive result means?

Difficult : A lot of women an newborns are + for M. hominis. It is not at all clear as to what to do about it. One of the mavens on this is on this site. I suggest you set up a virtual consult with him. His name is Dr. H. Hunter Handsfeld or something very close to that. They restrict you to only 400 spaces on this site and I find that too limiting. ...Read more

I : I am assuming that you mean bacterial vaginosis. Things you can try are reducing sugary foods or drinks, reducing alcohol (because of sugar content), avoiding hot baths or any bubble-bath products, using a non-soap type of product such as cetaphil cleanser (ask your pharmacist for recommendation), using a soothing cream such as vagisil or similar product, and only wearing cotton underwear and not synthetic products. ...Read more

I keep getting BV & take meds for it when prescribed & even found a homeopathic treatment but it keeps coming back...How do I get rid of it for good?

I keep getting BV & take meds for it when prescribed & even found a homeopathic treatment but it keeps coming back...How do I get rid of it for good?

It's coming back?: I'm not sure what "found a homeopathic treatment" means here. Can be easy to misunderstand what's homeopathic & what's not. Also, with a chronic condition it's best to be seen and followed by an experienced homeopath rather than attempt to treat ourselves. I agree w/my colleague that gyn evaluation is needed to be sure of the diagnosis, as well as using probiotic to support natural flora. ...Read more

I've been treated for BV but it always come back my partner has never been treated is there a way to prevent this odor it gives me low self-esteem?

Imbalance: BV is an imbalance in the vaginally bacteria. It is not passed sexually, do it does no good to treat your partner. The abnormal bacteria needs to be suppressed, which is what Metronidazole does. But then the normal bacteria needs to be restored, which is mainly Lactobacillus acidophilus, as in yogurt. Eating yogurt or taking probiotics help. DO NOT DOUCHE! It works against you. ...Read more

I have used a vaginal cream prescribed to me for BV, but the discharge and smell keeps coming back after so many weeks. Now what does this mean???

Recurrent BV: Bacterial vaginosis commonly recurs after treatment - some patients respond more favorably to oral medicine than topical creams. It is also possible your sexual partner is infected and is re-infected you after treatment. Finally, some patients require long term topical gel for persistent infections. ...Read more
