I sprained my ankle 5 months ago, and now when i work out I get severe popping noise and slight pain in the same spot. How can i fix this?

Even if you're in great shape, when a muscle, ligament, tendon is sprained, it can take several months before they are back to 100%. If you push too much too soon, you can decrease the actual healing that happen. Ease off the work outs and see your Doctor. ...Read more

What kind of ankle sprain would coincide with loud popping and severe pain that feels like being stabbed?

A significant one: The "popping" is the tearing of ligaments (hopefully not bone) keep in mind if it is only a sprain, the torn ligaments are attached to bone. Sometimes a sprain of the ankle can entail an avulsion fracture(ligament taking a piece of bone with it) x-rays should be taken with such an injury. Sprained my lateral, deltoid ligaments and top of foot 5 months ago - still getting pain, popping and swelling above my ankle?

They all need to be evaluated. If an x-ray doesn't show a problem, you may need an MRI or a CT scan. It could be an ankle sprain or a syndesmotic injury or a Lisfranc injury or an undiagnosed fracture. ...Read more
