On low carb diet, what is the minimum carb, protein, fat and fiber that I need each day?

On low carb diet, what is the minimum carb, protein, fat and fiber that I need each day?

To many variables!: It depends if you exercise a bit. You can be more liberal with carbs. Obviously if calories don't come from carbs, they come from protein and fat. Most people on a low carb diet consume 100-120g per day of proteinm 40-60g of carbs (after induction). Aside from fats in meat and dairy, go with nuts, monosaturated oils (olive, peanut, canola). Vegetables are low caloric density, so eat plenty! ...Read more

What is a safe amount of carbohydrates to intake daily if you are trying to lower your blood glucose?

What is a safe amount of carbohydrates to intake daily if you are trying to lower your blood glucose?

Depends: It depends on age, health, sex, activity levels, & diabetes. You're a female in your 20s, so most nutritionists would say that you can have 45-60 grams of carb per meal. You can aim lower if you're trying to lose weight, but then you might have to watch for ketosis (ketones in your urine). And eat healthy carbs (veggies) and avoid processed foods. If diabetic, use your fingersticks to guide you ...Read more

Does honey have the same effects on the body as sugar does? I know when you eat sugar, fructose to overloads the liver & results in fat storage.

Enjoy a little honey: and fruit, but in moderation. They are a close second to table sugar and that's the one that really needs to be avoided. Also, studies show that diet soda can actually make us gain weight. Use Stevia as a sweetener and avoid chemical sweeteners. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Plants: Adding more plants (fruits and veggies) will add fiber while helping add a substantial amount of other nutrients that are also healthy. If you are trying to treat a particular condition, ask again w/more detail. Thx. ...Read more

When trying to lose weight and you are counting calories should the overall calorie intake matter Or just the net. Intake after burning calories?

When trying to lose weight and you are counting calories should the overall calorie intake matter Or just the net. Intake after burning calories?

Both: (cannot answer on your particular health, but...) 1) weight change is from net calorie loss. Type of food intake irrelevant, calories in versus calories out. 2)BUT! much/most of the weight loss will be from MUSCLE (bad) unless exercise goes along with the dieting. Exercise without dieting has a LOUSY success record on weight loss. Track both net loss and intake/exercise. Do Both diet and exercise ...Read more

What exactly is the lowest number of calories you can eat and not go into starvation mode?

What exactly is the lowest number of calories you can eat and not go into starvation mode?

Hard to avoid: When you force the body to burn fat & not allowing your body to get that needed energy from the food u eat, u r n starv mode. As long as the intake is healthy and the body burns fat instead of muscle u are in good shape. The 2 words have a bad wrap because of the useless fad diets that end up burning muscle. The key is to use medicine to help in wt loss. In general 800 calories is lower limit. ...Read more

What do you think of The Virgin Diet and decreasing sugar and what would be a minimal sugar have per day to see possible weight loss? AmHypothroid?

What do you think of The Virgin Diet and decreasing sugar and what would be a minimal sugar have per day to see possible weight loss? AmHypothroid?

Fewer calories: I don't know the details of the Virgin diet but it appears to be a variation on a low carbohydrate diet. Weight loss occurs when you take in fewer calories than you burn up. There is no magic to this formula. Since fats tend to increase satiety more than carbohydrates, by eating more fats and less carbs, most people end up eating fewer calories and therefore lose weight. ...Read more

If the paleo diet consists of no carbs or grains how is a hypoglycemic person supossed to follow it ??

If the paleo diet consists of no carbs or grains how is a hypoglycemic person supossed to follow it ??

Hypoglycemia: A spike in blood glucose (from eating sugar) is followed by a spike in insulin (which moves sugar from the blood into the cells) but these insulin spikes often "overshoot" resulting in hypoglycemia. So interestingly it is the high sugar levels which CAUSE the sugar crash/hypoglycemia later. Eating paleo will actually improve hypoglycemia AND hyperglycemia giving you steady glucose levels all day ...Read more

After the hCG diet how do you keep the weight off ? Can you drink alcoholic beverages on the diet?

After the hCG diet how do you keep the weight off ? Can you drink alcoholic beverages on the diet?

You can't!: The major problem with every diet (the hcg, adkins, south beach, etc) is that when you stop it, you always regain the weight when you go back to eating the way way you were before. That's why the diets advertise losing weight quickly but rarely show people who kept the weight off. Remember: alcohol contains calories which can cause weight gain like any other drink. Limit it as much as you can. ...Read more

What is the difference between "fiber" and "dietary fiber" and "carbs" and "net carbs"?

What is the difference between "fiber" and "dietary fiber" and "carbs" and "net carbs"?

Several!: It is good self-nutritional support to know these points! first, carbs are all carbohydrates, including sugar and fiber. Usually, the non-sugar carbs, after subtracting fiber, are starch. Net carbs are total carbs, minus fiber, both soluble and insoluble. Some foods may contain sugar alcohols, which have little impact on Insulin secretion, and therefore, do not act like carbs. ...Read more
