Why do you have to leave out your contacts a week before a lasik consultation?

Why do you have to leave out your contacts a week before a lasik consultation?

Best results: A contact lens temporarily reshapes the cornea's curvature. Lasik permanently reshapes the cornea; but if the cornea is treated prior to having returned to its normal curvature, the prescription will change as it does so. Depending on the type of contacts (soft, toric, rigid), it can take between a week and several months for the cornea's curvature to return to normal. ...Read more

What to do if i really want to get laser eye surgery, and i watched a video every time i go to the eye doctor. How old do you have to be to get the surgery?

Laser eye surgery: Lasik is fda approved to age 21, and most docs/locations will offer it to 18 year olds. I prefer to wait until someone is in their 20's to be more sure the refraction is stable and the cornea a fairly normal shape. There is no age limit, but as people approach age 60, cataracts may develop, and lasik should not be done first if cataract surgery is needed. ...Read more

I think I'm manic and I have to wait until at least Monday to have it confirmed. I would like to talk to a specialist about this before then. If you're specialised in mania and read this before Monday 8th, please contact me for a consult.

Best to see MD: You should be seen in person as soon as possible by a psychiatrist to evaluate and diagnose your mental state. Diagnosing mania can be complicated, requiring a detailed history, physical and mental status exam. Tell a family member or trusted friend how you feel, ask them to go with you to urgent care or ER without delay. Mania is treatable. What should you do if you have a stye in your eye and you 11 also about to go to school? I already tried putting a warm cloth.

A : A stye is simply an inflamed oil gland in the eyelid. These are rarely infected and antibiotics usually don't help much. Warm compresses and gently massage help. Try putting a potato in the microwave for a couple of minutes and wrap a warm wet wash cloth around that. It will hold the heat longer than a wash cloth that was held under the hot water. ...Read more

No: Sorry, a whole eye transplant is simply not possible. Why do doctors make their patients wait months for an appointment and then push you out after seeing you for only 15 minutes?

Why do doctors make their patients wait months for an appointment and then push you out after seeing you for only 15 minutes?

In general, we don't: We doctors don't do that. The machine does that. The machine is the system that causes all these undesirable effects in delivering healthcare. There is enormous demand for healthcare (many people needing help), but a limited supply of doctors plus an unwillingness of society to move more funds into training and hiring more doctors, to better match the demand (actually, more complicated than that). ...Read more

What do you recommend if I have worn contact lenses for a long time, would eye drops help?

Contact overwear: The first thing you should do is remove your contacts to give your eyes a break. Population safety/no: Whether or not you care if you get some of these diseases is less an issue than the possibility you could carry them to someone who does. Do i expect to have surgery same day as MRI if I have a meniscus tear? Or would I have to wait? I need to figure this out before prom.

Not emergent: While it would be nice to have surgery the same day as an mri, it usually takes some number of days to get the MRI back, read by the radiologist or surgeon, determine if surgery is appropriate, and then schedule surgery. Surgery can be done soon, or it can be delayed for a period of time if your symptoms are manageable (and the tear is not too large). ...Read more

My husband has hep c and cirrhosis stage 4 since 2003 he is getting his liver tapped today. He is on lasiks 3 times a day at 4o mg a pop. His liver and?

What is the ?: Cirrhosis represents scarring of the liver. It is usefully classified as child's (or child-pugh) class a, b or c. This has nothing to do with hep c as such. Tapping fluid (ascites) suggests it is class b or c and often indicates there is poor fluid and salt management. Lasix (furosemide) needs only once daily therapy. 120 of Lasix (furosemide) usually requires spironolactone to counter the k+ loss (often in a 40:100 ratio). ...Read more

RCC patient, stg. 4 metasises in lungs, liver and skull. Swollen feet. Now has swollen legs (up to thighs) is this from the cancer? On lasiks for 2+wks

Possible: Very possible. Swelling may occur via a few different mechanisms in this illness: 1) if normal liver tissue has been replaced by cancer then insufficient circulating proteins can be produced by the liver resulting in a decrease in oncotic or "pulling pressure" of the circulating bloodstream resulting in fluid seeping out into dependent areas of body like the legs. 2) tumor bulk could block IVC ...Read more

Without : Without question - you should have prk. Surface ablation is as effective as lasik, and has the same safety profile. While vision recovers faster with lasik, the long term results are identical. More importantly - with your potential risk of weakening of the eye with lasik - i would in general recommend surface ablation. Obviously - without seeing the maps - i can not know for certain - but this is just a general answer to your question. Best regards bill trattler, md www.Centerforeyecare.Com. ...Read more

Could lasek eye surgery leave a scar as oppossed to lasik surgery?

Possible: Each procedure has its own potential set of complications and risks. It is possible for your cornea to develop haziness or "scar" tissue as it heals. The chances of this occurring are small and can be lessened by the use of certain topical drugs during and after the surgery. Discuss this issue in more detail with your surgeon. ...Read more

Yes, once eye heals.: Once your doctor gives you the ok that the eye has healed after lasik surgery, you can use cosmetic (colored) contact lenses. -3.0 in both eyes. Using contacts. Can read fine without glasses. Considering whether lasik or lasek, or other surgical correction?

Epi-LASIK: I have done over 10000 lasik cases and over 1000 prk cases. A documented, peer-reviewed study was published in 2011 showing that the lasik flap never fully heals. The consequence of this is if any lasik patient ever gets hit in the eye just right (just wrong) and the flap comes loose, there is a very brief window to get it repositioned or you'll need a corneal transplant. Insist on epi-lasik! ...Read more

I had lasik a month ago - when will my dry eyes go away? The lasik went well, and i love my new vision, but my eyes are still dry. One of the reasons i got lasik was that i couldn't wear my contacts because they irritated my eyes. How long does it take

Dr. John Kim Dr. Kim
4 doctors agreed:

When : When you have the lasik surgery, the nerves to your cornea is severed during the creation of the flap. This causes decrease in the corneal sensation. This lead to decrease in the blink rate and dryness caused by the prolonged exposure. Fortunately, the nerve will grow back. It will take 4~6 month for the nerves to fully grow back. Therefor, it is imperative that you lubricate your eye with frequent dosing of the artificial tears until your corneal nerves are fully restored. This should have been fully explained to the patient prior to the surgery. ...Read more
