I have a tick bite on my scrotum. Its left a red bump and sometimes itches, is this serious?

Possibly

Itch
Ticks can carry numerous diseases, including Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme disease, Borrelia infections, and others. If you develop other symptoms see a doctor ASAP. If this rash begins to spread outward or resembles a target, go and get treated for Lyme disease. Good luck

After one week of antibiotics for a tick bite, it still itches and it's a little red and firm, what should I do?

Steroid

Pills
Rub in a steroid cream. You may have a tube for poison ivy. OTC hydrocortisone 1% is weak but may be enough. Don't be afraid to rub in several times a day. No need to wash before or after. If not OK in a week, see a dermatologist. Avoid antiseptics and antibiotics. If you have bacitracin or Neosporin do NOT use on this. Peroxide or alcohol will make it worse. Do NOT use a bandage.

Dr. Laura McMullen answered:

Do I have lme disease? I got a tick bite on my upper thigh about half a year ago. it spread to other parts of my legs, itches a lot, but I don't have any of the other symptoms. I misspelld: the question is do I have lyme diease?

The

The rash associated with lyme disease is called erythema migrans and it looks like a target or bulls-eye. It usually starts at the site of the tick bite 3-30 days after the bite (average 7 days) and then can spread to other parts of the body. The rash typically doesn't last more than a month and is rarely itchy. An itchy rash appearing 6 months after a tick bite would not be related to lyme disease. Other kinds of ticks can spread other organisms besides lyme such as "Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness" or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, so if you think you have an abnormal rash related to a previous tick bite, contact your doctor. Below I've attached a website with tons of good information on Lyme disease. Good luck!

If after a tick bites you and there is a little red bump that itches sometimes, is that okay?

Usually OK

Itch
Foreign proteins from the tick's saliva can cause a mild allergic reaction, resulting in an itchy bump, a tick bite granuloma, that may take a month to flatten. This is not the rash of Lyme Disease, and is not a cause for worry. There are prescription creams that can flatten this bump faster.

How long does itching last for tick bite?

It depends

Itch
If no tick body parts are stuck under the skin, the itch usually is gone in under a week. If the head broke off, under the skin, and is not removed, the itch could last much longer, and the area could get infected. The head could be removed with help of a local anaesthetic.

Later, the bite site may develop itching, burning, redness, and rarely, localized intense pain (some soft tick bites) in some individuals. A few individuals may be sensitive or allergic to tick bites (tick saliva secretions) and develop rash, shortness of breath, swelling, numbness, or paralysis. However, the majority of individuals with tick bites develop no symptoms.

After being treated for a tick bite,is it normal go continue to itch in that same area.?

Possible

Tick_bite
Tick bites can be very reactive. Depending on your particular sensitivity to bites, you could have itching for 2-3 weeks or more. Perhaps you should use some topical steroid cream and some antihistamines and an ice pack. If this persists, you should be seen, especially if there is rash that continues to get bigger, if there is streaking, heat or fever or enlarged lymph nodes. Don't hesitate!

The deer tick bite site is itching and inflamed again 2 months after a 30-day antibiotic treatment. Is this cause for concern?

Get it checked

Itching_all_over
If this is truly the same site as the original, you should get it checked out. Best to revisit the same doctor involved with your first treatment for comparison sake.

Dr. Michael Miller answered:

My son had a tick bite. I had to carefully remove it.. Head and all and put alcohol to clean, neosporin and itch cream will it be ok?

Simple Care

Itching
When our protective skin is injured/opened, then the delicate internal environment is exposed to the harsh external environment. Covering it with a clean dressing is the way to go changing it every other day or so. Avoid scratching. Anti-itch creams help. Also, stay away from Peroxide, alcohol, Betadine, hibiclens, bleach solutions and other irritating things

I agree with the other doctor who wrote to you. It's important to talk with someone about this, because ticks are known to carry a number of infections, such as Lyme disease, Babesia, and other bacterias. Generally they are slow growing infections and the symptoms can sneak up on you, or come and go over time. It would be a good idea to discuss this with your parents or a doctor. They might decide to give you a few weeks of antibiotic treatment to prevent a chronic infection. Take care Dr. Tedde Rinker Los Altos, CA
