Stability, but no: Fiberotomies are done to increase the stability of the orthodontic correction. The fibers that are cut are above the bone, and for that reason i doubt its effectiveness. The overwhelming majority of fibers that connect the root to bone are below the crest of bone, different vertical levels have different angulations. Gums or inside lips?: Most hardware won't cut gums, a few rarely used attachments might. If gums are cut check with orthodontist. You might have gingivitis instead. A few rare proceedures require an incision which heals quickly. Wax: Your dentist/orthodontist should give you some wax to place on top of cut area for relief. Warm salt water holding briefly 15 seconds, then rinse will help. 2 tylenol (acetaminophen) will also help. Topical numbing using orajel or orabase or chloraseptic spray will also help.
