Why Do So Many People Have Low Vitamin D Levels
Perhaps: Since low vitamin d is widespread, 60% in usa, best to supplement, and get level up to 50-60. Is evidence that low levels cause some sleep disturbance, but not narcolepsy. However, vit d supplements may help control some of this better. Discuss necessary approach with your doctor. ...Read more
Vitamin D levels 10.8 ng/ml what are causes ? have mild hypothyroid D Supplements cause diarrhea what to do to increase d levels?
What supplements?: I have no idea what you are asking but I do advise everyone who is low in vit d to take vitamin d3 5-8000 iu/day as well as 5-10, 000 iu of vit. A and 1 mg of vit k, as they work synergistically. As for any other supplements, i don't know what you are asking but low d should generally not cause problems taking most other supplements. ...Read more
What are things you should know if you have an elevated pth, normal calcium level and vitamin d deficiency?
Correct D deficiency: Vitamin d deficiency reduces intestinal calcium absorption and stimulates parathyroid hormone secretion which maintains the blood calcium in the normal range until it is so severe that a low blood calcium develops. Correction of d deficiency restores the parathyroid hormone and calcium to normal. ...Read more
I have low PTH and low vitamin D even when on vitamin D supps (thyroidectomy in 2 weeks) but normal calcium levels. What causes the low Pth?
Normal: You can be low on iron but still have a normal hemoglobin. The iron level is not the best test of iron reserves. Ferritin is a better test. The gold standard is bone marrow biopsy. Not necessary here. Treating low (hypo) ferritinemia does not improve symptoms -- http://www.Biomedcentral.Com/1741-7015/10/8. ...Read more
What are normal levels for vitamin d 25 oh? And can u get a low grade fever if the vitamin d levels are low?
Prefer at least 30: The range of 25-oh vitamin d levels believed to be adequate by physicians ranges from approx. 20 to 70 ng/ml, depending on who you talk to. There is some evidence from controlled studies that vitamin d supplementation lowers all-cause mortality. I favor achieving a level of at least 30 ng/ml. I'm not aware of a link between vitamin d and fever, and doubt your post-ovulation temp is true fever. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Why are people with low cholesterol more likely to get cancer than people with higher cholesterol? Is this related to their vitamin d levels?
Statistical fluke: Healthy people with low cholesterol don't get more cancer. This is a statistical fluke of some studies. In some studies, people with low cholesterol or vit d have an occult cancer, or are smokers, or are too skinny (due to their illness), and then these people tend to show more cancers later. Statistical associations can be misleading and do not prove cause-effect. ...Read more
Bad diet, indoors: It is rare to have low vitamin a in the usa as even limited diets contain enough of this vitamin to meet the body's needs. Vitamin d however is dependent partially on diet and also on sunlight so low vitamin d is common and it is reasonable to supplement this with 2000-4000 units of d3 per day especially in poorly lit climates like seattle and alaska. ...Read more
Is it possible for elevated bilirubin levels and being vitamin d deficiency to have anything to do with each other?
Doubtful: I highly doubt any relationship between elevated bilirubin and vitamin D deficiency in adults. Given the epidemic of vitamin D deficiency, physicians would see thousands more patients with elevated bilirubin if there was a relationship between the two. That being said, a 2013 study from Asia suggests low vitamin D may be associated with elevated bilirubin in neonates. ...Read more
Theoretically the body cannot absorb calcium without enough vitamin d. I have vit d deficiency but my calcium levels are good. What's up with that?
Can maintain blood: The level of calcium in your blood has nothing to do with how well you're absorbing calcium. We have a huge reservoir of calcium in our bones ; the amount in our blood is regulated by parathyroid hormone; we need to keep serum calcium levels within a narrow range or we die. Even if you absorb no calcium you can maintain a normal blood level due to the stores in your bone.See http://bit.Ly/1ekkvkv. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
