? shin splints: If the discomfort is not in the knees but in the lower legs below the knee, these may be shin splints due to overuse and muscle irritation especially brought on by running. Try reducing your running, ice the legs and, if you can take them, nsaids like Ibuprofen or Naproxen may help. Theses measures may also help knee tendonitis, etc. For more advice or worsening symptoms, see your md. ...Read more

Shin Splints: Shin splints are a common overuse injury seen in runners. Pain is usually present on the medial (inner) part of the shin, is worse with exercise, and improves with rest. Prevention techniques include using appropriate shoes (properly fitting and not worn out), stretching prior to activity, and gradually increasing the length and intensity of running as tolerated (rather than all at once). ...Read more

What exercises can I do to prevent shin splints and lower leg pain after running?

What exercises can I do to prevent shin splints and lower leg pain after running?

Stretches: Shin splints are frustrating for sure! Tight heel cords (achilles tendons in the back of the leg at the ankle) can contribute, so doing stretches for that muscle before and after running can help-wall push-ups with legs straight, etc. See link for that and other suggestions: http://tinyurl. Antibiotic ointment: You may get antibiotic ointment like Neosporin, available over the counter and apply to the raw area. It is okay to leave it uncovered, or you may cover it, after applying the ointment, with sterile gauze and secure it with hypoallergenic tape.

Cramping calf-to-ankle after running, gets sore for next few days. Was just walking, felt pop in lower leg. Sharp pain initially, now dull pain. Full mvmnt

Pop sounds Bad.: Feeling a pop in a calf, especially under the circumstances you have given, is certainly concerning. I would recommend that you see a specialist for a evaluation of your calf. Pops can be an indication of a slight tear that could lead to something more serious. Second guessing this potential problem is just not worth it. ...Read more
