Why do my hands swell and hurt when I'm sleeping and sometimes even when I'm not sleeping? I don't sleep on my hands.

Possible Carpal Tun: There are other possibilities, but the most likely cause for your symptoms is carpal tunnel syndrome. This is the result of compression of the median nerves at the wrists and it is common for people to wake up to "shake out the numbness." Carpal tunnel syndrm: You may have bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome [cts] (pinched median nerve in wrist). First, you may want to try wrist splints on both wrists at night. Nsaids (aleve (naproxen) 2 pills 2x/day) may also help with inflammation. You should note improvement over the next few weeks. If not, get seen.
