Possible Carpal Tun: There are other possibilities, but the most likely cause for your symptoms is carpal tunnel syndrome. This is the result of compression of the median nerves at the wrists and it is common for people to wake up to "shake out the numbness." 2 issues: You have 2 different problems: arm pain and tingling, falling asleep, numb - all suggest nerve compression, possibly in your neck (cervical vertebrae). This sounds like a hypnic jerk, which is nothing to be concerned about. Typically these occur as you are transitioning from wake in to sleep.
Be sure you are getting a normal amount of sleep nightly/regular sleep wake schedule, as that can often decrease the frequency of these.
