Simethicone: Over the counter simethicone drops (mylicon or infant gas drops). Are perfectly safe. The dose is 0.3 ml every 3 hrs as needed. If you are breast feeding take a look at your diet. Infant colic: Prevacid (lansoprazole) is not known to cause gas. It is used to reduce acid and thus treat reflux to prevent the esophagus from getting inflamed. It is normally given to children more than 1 years old but is commonly used for newborns. If you are right, i would suggest simply using half the dose for a day or so and see if the "gas" is gone. Yes. : Gripe water can be given to a 2 1/2 week old baby. Make sure it has no alcohol in it. There are other medications also that may be used - discuss with baby's doctor.
