Can I safely remove a small foreign object my child placed up her nose?

Can I safely remove a small foreign object my child placed up her nose?

No: The problem with trying to take it out yourself is that the narrowest part of the nasal passage is right past the nostril... Nasal foreign bodies are generally not emergencies and can be seen in clinic as soon as possible. The er doc can traumatize your child and cause bleeding. See an ent. ...Read more

Can I use a shower head to flush out a small foreign object in my eye?

I would never: You can wet a Q-tip and place the wet end near the object & then gently tease it off the eye. If it will not move, you need to go to an urgent care clinic so they can extract it. An alternative might be using a big bottle of artificial tears to squirt at/flush the object. You cannot control the flow or direction of a showerhead & are likely to do more harm than good. ...Read more

I stepped on something sharp. I don't see blood but it stings. The object might be in my foot but the object is too small to see. What should I do?

You decide: You have likely picked up a small foreign body that is buried within the tough tissue of the foot. Month ago, a small pointed object hit the second joint of my index finger. Now no pain but when I rub the skin, I don't feel. I thnk I lost sense in part?

Nerve injury: The nerves that give sensation to the fingers run down the length of the fingers on each side but closer to the underside or palm surface. Broken vs bruised nose? I fell into an object last nite. Nose /swollen / painful to touch. Inner eyes are bruised. Small knot on nose

May need Xray & exam: The more important thing is that you are checked for injuries such as an orbital fracture and for a septal hematoma. A nasal bone fracture is probably not itself very important. But fractures of the orbit can cause problems with eye movement, and septal hematomas can lead to a septal perforation which may cause a persistent sensation of nasal congestion. ...Read more

What do I do if a small plastic object is unretreivable from my rectum? Is it possible it is traveling upwards? I am vomitng now with no fever a constant cramping pain in the middle of my stomach which has moved upward in the last 12 to 24 hours

You: You describe a small plastic device, but I do not know what size that would be or how it came to be there. Plastic would not be visible on an x-ray.
You need to have an examination very quickly to be sure that you do not have an intestinal blockage or obstruction. Retained objects could also possibly perforate the intestine, or cause intestinal irritation or injury especially if there could be sharp edges on the item.
If it is truly small, then it would pass on its own without much consequences. ...Read more
