Why Do I Keep Spotting On And Off
Depends: If you are spotting mid cycle between periods, it is likely due to ovulation. If you are spotting off and on and not having periods, then it is likely anovulatory breakthrough bleeding - and you should see your doctor for treatment options. If you are spotting off and on and having regular periods, you need to see your doctor as you may have a polyp, infection, fibroids, or endometriosis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Vaginal or rectal?: Is it vaginal or rectal? If vaginal, see your gyn. If rectal, first, you will need a rectal exam. The md will go up your rectum with their finger, place what they get on a special card & add a liquid on it & see if any blood is seen. Either way, md may want you to have a colonoscopy to see if you have polyps. Or, just look for hemorrhoids by just looking. You could have fissures that bleed. See md. ...Read more

If it becomes a continuing problem, your gynecologist may sometimes suggest short-term estrogen medication that may help. ...Read more

Why do I keep spotting after my monthly period about 2 days after then another 4 days after? I have an iucd on.
Vaginal odor: A few thoughts come to mind. The fishy odor could be bacterial overgrowth and you may need Flagyl for bv. The dead animal odor makes me think of a lost tampon - you might feel around in there to make sure. I'm not sure about why you keep spotting unless it is due to one of these infections causing uterine irritation. If you've had a change of medication, that could also be something to look into. ...Read more

Been on generic version of yaz for 2 yrs, the past few months I've been skipping my inactive pills. I keep spotting lightly/heavily. Is this normal?
OCP spotting: Today's OCP's (like "Yaz") are very low dose in estrogen. Not taking the "inactive pills" is safe if you don't "forget when to restart". It is best to skip only FIVE days not seven of inactive pills, and restart the active ones. It is common to have light spotting when on the low dose kinds of OCP. To avoid spotting, take within the hour of the one taken the previous day, and not in AM but PM. ...Read more

I recently found out I have PCOS I was prescribed metformin ER 500mg and I keep spotting is this normal?
Not unusual: Metformin seems to be quite effective at regulating menstrual periods in women with PCOS, but there is often associated mid-cycle spotting, especially in the first few months. If it is going on longer than 6 months, I suggest discussing this with your prescribing physician. Adjusting the dose or considering oral contraceptives (depending on your pregnancy goals) can be considered. Good wishes! ...Read more
