Is : Is this new or has it been around for a long time? Hearing your heart beat in your ear can be normal--the carotid artery and the jugular vein are directly next to the ear and the pulsations can transmit to the hearing aparatus of the ear. Other things that can cause it are inflammation in the ear (very common), high blood pressure (common), atherosclerosis in the carotid artery (common), high venous pressure, high intracranial pressures (too much cerebrospinal fluid)(rare), vascular tumors in the ear (rare). Basically, it can sometimes be a variant of normal, or it can be a symptom of inflammation or vascular problems. I see it fairly often in my clinic and very rarely is it anything that is concerning, but it should be seen if it persists or is accompanied by other symptoms. ...Read more

What could cause me to hear my heart beat in one of my ears every couple of days? Rarely eyes get watery when hearing heart beat.

Ears: We hear by 2 mechanisms: external sounds via air conduction and internal sounds by bone conduction. Normal anatomy: your carotid artery passes through the bone that makes up your inner ear. Bottom line: you likely have serous otitis media or an intermittently congested eustachian tube. When your external hearing is diminished, you hear the softer internal blood flow. This is not dangerous. ...Read more

Sometimes when I stand up, I feel dizzy, my head feels heavy and I can hear my heartbeat in my ears and my heart skips a beat?

Not uncommon: Is this your only symptom? Are you otherwise well? How fit are you? Are you adequately hydrated? Is your blood pressure normal? A skipped beat can be common, but it probably deserves to be checked completely with an ECG. But feeling woozy right after standing, is not uncommon, but should not normally be a huge problem. I would get a good check-up by a doctor. ...Read more

Eustachtian tube: This is likely from a blocked eustachtian tube or fluid trapped behind your ear drum. You can try manoeuvres to help open the tube and help drainage. These are called Valsava maneuvers. One is blowing into a blocked straw, another is taking a big breath and holding it and swallowing. Sometimes chewing gum works. If these maneuvers fail to work, see your doctor for medication. All the best. ...Read more

Hello. : Hello. You really are a worrisome young heart. I have felt/ heard my heart beating around my temples a number of times when i was really exerting myself. From what you describe he was well with no symptoms. Because he did not hear his heart for a few seconds, it may have been beating or may have had a brief pause. If your friend develops problems with irregular heart rhythm patterns in the future, he has chest discomfort, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, those would be definite reasons to see a doctor.
