Cervical Referral?: For DX purposes the scapula is a BIG area. Very common is burning pain at inner edge scapula & in the upper thoracic spine. The basic problem is a neck facet arthritis C4-5? that refers pain to that area and is worse with stress & poor posture. Aleve+ sedation+ exercise and sometimes a chiropractor will help. MRI w/without Gad: Depending on how high or low on your shoulder blade, this area localizes to either the c4 or t2 nerve roots. An entrapped neurofibroma at one of these levels may be producing the burning pain. An MRI of the cervical spine extended to the high cervical region with and without gadolinium should show any abnormalities in these regions. Rheumatoid Disorder: At your age of 22, if you do not have a history of spine trauma or repetitive stress to the area, it sounds like you may have a rheumatolgical disorder. The typical ones at your age may be scheuermann's disease, ankylosing spondilitis or even diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis.
